Hello,
I have just joined the Coffey mailing list, however, I am not new to
genealogy. I've been spending most of my time researching the DeGarmo
line, but am taking an interest in the Coffey line. Following is my
lineage beginning with Edward Coffey b. about 1716. I'm particularly
interested in Joel Coffey b. about 1770 in Amherst County, VA and his
daughter Lavina Coffey (my 2nd great grandmother).
Edward Coffey b. abt. 1670 d. abt. 1716
+ Ann Ester Powell b. abt. 1670 d. abt. 1744
John Coffey b. abt. 1700 d. 1775
+Jane Graves b. abt 1708 d. ?
James Coffey b. 1729 d. 1786
+ Elizabeth Cleveland b. 1727 d. 1827
Joel Coffey b. 1770 d. 1826
+ Martha "Patsy" b. ? d. 1839
Lavina Coffey b. abt. 1804
+ Simeon F. Coombs (Married 1823 Adair County, KY)
Does anyone have information on Joel Coffey (1770) or Lavina Coffey (1804)?
I'll gladly exchange information. Folloowing is my line from Simeon
Coombs and Lavina Coffey:
Simeon F. Coombs
+ Lavina Coffey
Francis "Frank" Combs
+ Lottie Winders
Henry Jackson Combs
+ Ollie Miller
Hazel Bessie Combs
+ Lawrence DeGarmo

Hi, Tim!
Yes, I am descended from Elizabeth Coffey, dau. of Morgan Coffey and
Elizabeth Day, and her husband Jackson Kilpatrick through their son John
Morgan Kilpatrick and his wife Iowa Texas Wood. The latter's daughter,
Emma Texanna Kilpatrick married William Cecil Starnes and they were my
parents.
Thanks for the information that Ancil Day was Elizabeth Day's father.
BTW, since you are also descended from Smith Coffey and Hannah Boone,
have you tried to trace your Boone line? If so, have you found any
maiden name for Hannah's grandmother, Israel Boone's wife?
Thanks again! I guess my next mystery will be to find Ancil's wife's
name! Best wishes, Charles Ed Starnes.

A friend sent these to me.. maybe they will help someone.
They are from the Highland Democrat Newspaper,Peekskill, N.Y. :
17 Jan 1885 Anna Coffery died at Verpalncks on Jan 13, aged 31 years
7 Oct 1905 John Coffey
"Found Dead on the Track"
A brakeman of a freight train on the siding at Montrose, discovered a man
lying near the track, near tower 35, about ten o'clock Saturday night. The
body was brought to Peekskill and taken to Ulm Bros.' undertaking
establishment by order of Coroner John L. Silleck who had been notified. The
man's skull was fractured and his right arm crushed. It was thought he had
been hit by the train. In his pocket was found a traveling card of the Iron
Molders' Union at Auburn in the name of John Coffey. That union was notified,
but up to the time of going to press, the coroner awaits the action of the
union.
I wish all my Coffee/Coffey Cousins a Happy New Year, and invite them to
visit my Coffey Cousins webpage. I have recently updated it to include
a number of text files on various Coffee/y families, lots of links to
other Coffee/y pages, and a query page with archived queries back to
June, 1997.

Ancil Day was Elizabeth's father. I've never found her mother's name.
Are you descended from Elizabeth Kilpatrick? I'm descended from Athan

Hey, Ed--
According to Marvin D. Coffey's book, "James B. Coffey, Volume II: Ancestors",
Supplement (no date, but bound with volume I purchased several years ago), p.
12:
Elizabeth DAY was wife of Morgan COFFEY (son of Smith COFFEY, b. abt 1776,
Albemarle Co., VA and Hannah BOONE). They had children: Leland, Hannah Land,
Harriet Barnes, Elizabeth Kirkpatrick, Louisa Derreberry, Sally Kirkpatrick,
Sarah Bryson, Mary, Milly, Joseph M., Athan & Boone.
I have no idea whether the second names attached to the female children are
married names or rather strange middle names, but would suspect the former.
If you need more info, please ask.

Can anyone identify for me the parents of Elizabeth Day who married
Morgan Coffey/Coffee in mid-1800s? Their daughter Elizabeth married
Jackson Kilpatrick. Thanks!
