While searching through the books of several northeast TN counties in the Memphis Public Library last week end, I found the following in the book Greene County, Tennessee minutes of the Court of Common Pleas, 1797-1807 by Sandra Kelton Houston:
p. 144 (Page #55 in the minutes - July 27, 1803) "State vs Anthony Pate. Eleanor Coffett enters into Recogizance for her appearance at October sessions next to prosecute and give evidence on behalf of the State in the sum of 100 dollars. She also enters for the appearance of her son Jacob Coffett to give evidence in behalf of the State vs Anthony Pate in the sum of 100 Dollars."
