Message Board Post:
Last weekend I stopped in an old bookstore in New Market (Shenandoah Co.), Virginia. While browsing some old bibles I found something called 'John Fredrick Stark's Daily Handbook', pub 1858. Handwritten in the cover was: "Ephraim Coffelt (his book bought Jan 26 1862) was born Jan 7 1822". Below that was handwritten: "Lydia Coffelt was born July 7 1828". I didn't buy the book since I'm not related (at least directly). Just thought I'd share this nugget in case anyone was related to them. Cheers.
Rob

Seeking info on Lucinda M. COFFELT born 1829/30 in Ohio or Pennsylvania, married Frederick YOUNG (probably originally JUNG) born 1821/22 in Germany. The 1850 census found them farming in Pleasant township, Madison county, Ohio with their 4 daughters, Alvisa, Martha, Lenora and Elton Jane. (I am descended from Elton Jane.)

I know there are at least two or three sets of twins in John's line. John's daughter Mary Elizabeth Coffelt married Benjamin Franklin Ragsdale and a couple of their children and grandchildren had twins.
Twins, triplets and more are the result of multiple ovulations(fraternal
siblings) or division of embryonic cells very early in development (identical
siblings). Either way it is determined by the mother. Any tendencies for
multiple ovulation or other genetic factors determining multiple births would
be passed along the maternal lines- not the paternal ones. If you are looking
for twins "running in the family" check back the female lineage.-ie-
mother-grandmother-great-grandmother-great-great-etc.
Furthermore- sixth generation descendants of Philip and Nellie Coffelt would
only carry one thirty second part of Philip or Nellie's genetic makeup--
there would be thirty one other people in that generation who contributed to
what ever traits exist among their 4great grandchildren. There is nothing
mystical or magical about the name itself that overshadows the contribution
of all our other ancestors.

Do you know anything about multiple births in the Phillip and Eleanor (Nelley) Coffelt line? They had twins, John and Henry, and six generations later, their 4th great granddaughter, Ethel Coffelt Koelling gave birth to triplets. I have her direct line, but don't know about the siblings of that line. Do some of you have Coffelt records of multiple births?
