Lavina T. Coffelt-Nelson
Mrs. Lavina T. Coffelt Nelson, who was born in Boone county, ??, died at
1:15 O'clock Sunday. Aug. 2, 1942 at her home northwest of Nardin, at
the age of 73 years, two months, 20 days.
At the age of two years she came with her parents to settle on a farm
northeast of Caldwell, Kansas, where she lived until her marriage to
John D. Nelson, March 27 1887
She and her husband took the homestead in the opening of the Cherokee
strip, where they have always lived, except three years they spent in
Oregon.
She is a member of the Methodist Church at Nardin.
She and her husband celebrated their golden ,50th, anniversary at their
home March 27, 1937
She is survived by her husband, John D. Nelson: three sons, Will of the
home, Sidney , of Dallas, Ore and John of Kingman, Kans.; two daughters,
Mrs. Sylvia Roberts of Loveland, Colo., and Mrs. Gertrude Croft: great
grand children, two brothers, Charles Coffelt of Blackwell and George
Coffelt of Dayton, Ohio: two sisters, Mrs Laura Reeves of Pond Creek,
and Mrs Orella Ross of Winfield, Kans. and one Aunt, Mrs. Parlie Evans
of Wichita, Kansas.

Dirigo Township in Grant County ( near the town of Nardin ).
A book titled "History of Grant County, Oklahoma 1811 to 1970", by Guy
P. Webb references an Atlas of Grant County published by Brock & Co.,
Chicago, 1928. The reference is concerning early settlers of the area
and reads: Nelson, J.D., farmer, S. 1, T. Dirigo, P.O. Nardin, 1893.
Married Levina Coffelt, native of Iowa. They have five children. Parents
of Mr. Nelson were pioneer residents of Corbin, Kan. Mr. Nelson staked
farm in race of 1893. (Oklahoma Land Rush)

RITES ARRANGED FOR NARDIN AREA PIONEER
Deer Creek, Aug. 6, Funeral arrangements were being made by the Pishny
funeral home here Tuesday for John D. Nelson, 86, who pioneered north
of Nardin and who died at 8:40 p. m Monday at the home of his daughter,
Mrs. Hallie Croft, Jefferson.
Mr. Nelson had been at Jefferson for two years, and bedfast two months.
Survivors are:
Two daughters, Mrs. Sylvia Roberts, Loveland, Cl. and Mrs. Croft; three
sons, William of Blackwell, Sidney G. of Dayton, Ore. and John H. of
Kingman, Kans.; two sister, Mrs Cora Whitlaw and Mrs. Mary Laurett of
Dayton and three brothers, Henry, of Chattanoga, Ten., Marion Dayton,
Or. and Ora of Hugoton, Kans.

I'm trying to find info on John Martin Coffelt from Kansas he was married to Elizabeth McMillian and had two children in the late 1880's Elizabeth died a short time after giving birth to her second child, that child went to live with the David Logan Family in Kansas. John remarried later to a women named Violet. He died in March 1917 in Coffey Kansas. Any info you may have on Coffelts in Kansas may help.
