I don't think we are directly related. My Coffee family came to Va.from Ireland around 1640. They later migrated to NC and then to Rabun Co.Ga. around 1820. My grandfather[John Thomas Coffee,Sr.] was born and grew up in Rabun Co. John and Thomas are family names. His father was Thomas J.Coffee. My GG grandfather was Joel Hymer Coffee. My GGG grandfather was John Coffee. My GGGG was also named John Coffee. My father was John THomas Coffee,Jr. Some of my other family names are Singleton,Cobb,Dotson,Cannon and Jenkins.

Castle Coffee! Ha! The potato famine left the Coffees remaining in Ireland destitute and they have since become Tinkers, the most despised and lowliest class, illiterate and living like gypsies. The election of a Coffee to the Dail several years ago was a milestone that was noted in the papers. When I first visited Ireland they were amazed that I could read and write!

Tara,
I think I can help you out...I am almost positive that I am your dad's first cousin. With that, if your grandfather was William Harvey Coffee that lived in San Pablo and then Fairfield, CA...I have information for you :)
My Uncle Harvey (he did not go by William), was born in Oklahoma. His parents' names are Willis Corbin Coffee and Lilly Mae Smith. Your grandfather was one of 12, there are currently only five or six of his siblings left.
As for the Coffee name, it is Irish. There is still a Coffee Castle (ruins, but it is there) in Ireland. I have actually traced Grandpa Coffee's (your Grandfather's father) lineage back to England and Ireland.
Please feel free to check out my family tree and get any information you would like. If you have additional questions for me, please just leave me a message and I will do my best to answer them.
I have attached a picture of your grandfather and part of his family. Your grandfather is on the far right. These are the "men" of the family. Some (not all) of his brothers and brother-in-laws.
I hope I have helped and didn't bore you with too many facts.
Janice
