One minor update to the post above. I forgot that I had photocopied a segment of the "Male Inhabitants of Tennessee: 1891 Johnson, Sullivan, Unicoi, and Washington Counties' when I was in TN a couple of months back.
That source lists Mike's age as 39 in 1891 putting him born in or around 1852.

I am seeking any information or clues or moral support for one Mike Coffee in Unicoi County, TN.
I find exactly two mentions of him anywhere. The first is a marriage certificate in Unicoi Co. in 1887 where he marries Eliza Metcalf.
The other mention is in the 1891 TN Voters list for Unicoi Co., Civil District 10. (I believe this is the Flag Pond area.)
I haven't the slightest when he was born (or where). My math shows that he most likely died between Sep 1894 (when his last child was conceived) and Aug 1896 when his wife remarried. I suppose it's possible they divorced, but I'm really not seeing that at that time in this family with no family memory of it.
It is also possible that they had moved to the Greene County area (which is really close to Flag Pond) since that is where the wife's subsequent marriage took place.
During this marriage he had 3 children (maybe more that died very young, but our family only ever knew of 3); James Deadrick Coffee, Bessie P. Coffee (Harris, Ambrose), and Birdie E. Coffee (Morrow) (my great-grandmother).
Final tidbits, my father's generation (which could not have known Mike due to ages) said his name was James Marion Coffee. I'm not sure how that fits in to the 'Mike' name in the records and nobody alive now knows where that name came from. I do find James Marion Coffee's around, but no way to link them to the mysterious 'Mike' of the two records I know are correct or the rest of the family.
Any help or thoughts that anybody might be able to provide would be greatly appreciated. I have been looking for this guy for over 10 years and it's driving me a little nuts.
Thanks everybody!
