My great grandfather Joshua David Coffee and his brother John James
Coffee moved from Smith County Tennessee and settled in Fannin County Texas
in 1855 and moved to Brown County in 1879 in time to be on the 1880 Brown
County Federal Census. John James Coffee later became an attorney and
settled in the Lubbock area and is buried in Lorraine City Cemetery.
Lorraine Texas is a few miles east of Colorado City. Many of John James
Coffee's descendants are buried in that area of Texas.
One of John James Coffee's descendants is partner in a law firm on
Hillcrest Drive in Dallas. He made a campaign to resurrect the old Kansas
City - Mexico and Orient Railroad (K C-M and O RR) . That railroad was
constructed by Arthur E. Stillwell in 1900 from Kansas City Kansas, through
San Angelo Texas to Alpine Texas with a goal of continuing through Texas
and Mexico to establish a port of trade with the Orient on the Pacific coast
of Mexico. The railroad went bankrupt in 1913.

Hello,
I am also from the William Coffee line that you are talking about.
Do you have any documentation on these facts?
I have had DAR look it up some and they could find no records that anyone
has used.
I have read book upon book and have not located anything.
I would appreciate any info that you have and your line.
We are also from Lubbock Texas and relocated to Florida in 1991
Thanks, Shirley Scarbrough

I have an old hand written record compiled by my sister about 1950, stating
that William Coffee was a sergeant in Capt. Cabell's Co., Lt. Col. Hendricks
regiment referring to "Document C19" ( whatever than means ) I don't know
where that reference is from. After getting that information, I researched
the history of Capt. Cabell's company and Lt. Col. Hendricks 6th Virginia
Regiment of Foot in the Dallas Public Library several years ago.
