I have several Margaret Bateman's in my database - can you give me more info on your Mother? Yes, My grandmother Ethel was a very nice person, I got the "genealogy" bug from her. I have more info on Ambrose Coffee, Jr., probably too much for this site. Please e-mail me and I will be happy to share what info I have.

Hi Joyce,
I am descended through Rolley Coffee as you are. I knew your Grandmother. What a nice lady. My mother's maiden name was Margaret Bateman from Carbon Hill. My mother bought Rolley's house, which has since burned down. I had received a lot of pictures and your Grandmother helped me identify the people. I also had received Rolley's bible. Your Grandmother was a real nice lady. I believe a gave her a picture of Rolley.Could you give me the information you have on Ambrose Jr. Thank you.

I am descended from a Raleigh Coffee who was born in 1829, and was the son of Ambrose. They also ended up in Greenup County. There may be more than one Raleigh. Mine sometimes spelled his name as Rolla.

I am looking for information on Julia Kate Coffey b. abt 1850 in Ireland, d. abt.1880 in Hamilton Co., OH. She married Oscar S. Belville, 1872 in Hamilton Co., OH. According to my Bellville book, Julia may have died giving birth or shortly after she gave birth to her daughter (name unknown). I believe her parents were Maurice John Coffey and Lizzie Betts. She named one of her sons Maurice. I can not find any information on Julia or her family. Who was her family? Where did they come from? Where did Oscar find her?
I have done general searches in the census but no luck. Now I know what it is like to hit a brick wall. I'm not even sure if her name is really spelled Coffey or Coffee. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thank You......

Georgia,
I sent the following note to several of my boards that I read all the time
and I had a response from the Oklahoma board which I'm pasting below. I
don't know if this will effect our public libraries or not.

I belong to Godfrey Library (CT) and we got a notification that HQ was
pulling their access at the end of the year. Here is a link to the letter.
I don't know how that affects Public Libraries as my local library has not
been notified but the HQ stuff is not available outside the library.

I received this in from the Jobe board and thought that I should forward it. I have Heritage Quest but on the link below it doesn't show my town or Library. I live in Ar, and I receive my connection through the State of Arkansas, I'm sure many of the small towns connections goes to the States Library.
This service is FREE, all you need is a library card, it offers much more than just free census but many items.

For those of you who do not know, Heritage Quest has free access to its census records through public libraries, but you view them at home whenever you want.
To see if your area is in this listing, please see this site. You will have to register with the library and renew your card every year. I have had mine now for 2 years. The images are great and they are clear and original size.

Greetings: I am trying to assist a 95 year young lady with finding the death dates for her two COFFEE great great uncles that are both buried in the old COFFEE Cemetery located on Hwy. 42 in the Big Springs Community on Monroe Mountain near Monroe, Overton Co., TN. Is there a COFFEE descendant on the list that might possibly have and share this death information with us? This needed data is for:
THOMAS J. COFFEE, b. July 1837 to parents, John Coffee and Rachel Nelson, at the old Coffee farm located 3 miles east of Livingston, Overton Co., TN. The home was known as the Bates Mansion and could be seen for miles across the valley. It was next to the old Willie D. Clark place. Thomas married at least once and maybe twice (need names & data on wives if possible) and had at least 2 sons named Columbus L. and James M. (Jimmie). THOMAS was living with his son, Jimmie, in the 1900, District 11, Overton Co., TN census and is buried in the COFFEE Cemetery but we need the date of death in order to prepare a grave marker. If any COFFEE descendant of this man knows the spousal info for Thomas that too would be appreciated.
ALFONZO COFFEE, b. abt. 1843 to the same parents and the same place as mentioned above. The last record we have of ALFONZO is where he was in the CSA on Dec. 31, 1862. The family story indicates that ALFONZO went into Livingston to get his boots repaired and was shot dead by Union soldiers. Alfonzo's mother, Rachel Nelson COFFEE, went through the Union lines to retrieve his son's body and he is also buried in the old COFFEE Cemetery as mentioned above. We need a date of death for Alfonzo so we can prepare a grave marker.
Thomas and Alfonzo's brother, JOHN N. COFFEE, is buried in the same cemetery and has a marker. He had 3 sons, John, Willie and Ward. John N., Thomas J. and Alfonzo had a sister named Louisa and one named Rebecca. Rebecca married Mr. Coleman and had at least one son named Johnny Coleman, a minister. They also had a brother, Richard N. Coffee.
If anyone knows of descendants of this family that could give us the death and marriage information on Thomas J. Coffee and the death date for Alfonzo, it will really be appreciated.
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can give in this regard,
Lynda Green
