Mindy, I haven't read this board in a long time, and have not been doing research either. I feel certain we are talking about the same James Coffel, my g-g-g-g-g grandfather. We all have run into the brick wall at Ireland and believe he must have been Scots-Irish. And I think most have given up there. What is your relationship?

Recorded in the Family Bible: Ebin Cleveland Coffee and Elizabeth Farmer's children were
William Madison Feb 6, 1847
Luise E. Apr 4, 1849
Mary A. Jul 15, 1851
James H. Jan 1, 1854
George Washington Mar 2, 1856
Victora May 28, 1859
Texana Oct, 1865
William Madison and Frances Elvira Bennett's children were
John Henry Feb. 25, 1871
George Ebin Dec. 28, 1873 Died Aug 15, 1875
Adeline Florence Feb 12, 1874
William Wilbur Feb 12, 1876
Williann Feb 12 1876 Died Jan 5, 1892
James Madison Jan 6, 1884
Elizabeth Aug 1885
If William M. was previously married, it is not recorded
here. He and Elvira were married Apr 21, 1870. The 1880
census does not list George Ebin, Adeline Florence or
William Wilbur. The Clarraine listed must have been
Williann (by age).
Cleveland Coffee 14 year old would have been Texana.
The George Coffee in census would have been William M's
brother born 1856. Kenneth Coffee

I show the following children for William Madison and Frances Elvira Bennett Coffey:
John Henry b. abt 1871
George Ebin b. abt. 1872
Adeline Florence b. abt. 1874
William Wilburn b. February 12, 1876
Williann b. February 12, 1876
James Madison b. abt 1884
Elizabeth b. abt. 1885
Based on your information regarding a possible first wife, it is theoretically possible that John Henry and George Ebin were children from his first marriage. The George you mention as being a neighbor may possibly be a brother. I don't have information on all of William Madison's siblings. William Madison's son named George, b. abt. 1872, died August 15, 1875. Will be happy to exchange information with you.

Looking at the 1880 census for Hopkins Co., I found William and Elvira.
From info there it appears that William may have been married prior to his union with Elvira.
The mother of the child Henry was born in KY, while the mother of the child Clarence (Florence?) was born in IL. Elvira's birthplace was IL.
William's parents, Cleveland and Elizabeth lived adjacent to Wm and Elvira in 1880. They still have a 14-yr old daughter with them, but I cannot read the name. Does anyone know who she is?
A neighbor on the other side of William is George, age 24, and wife. Did Cleveland and Elizabeth have a son with that name?
Does anyone have a complete list of Cleveland's children?
Thanks - Jack

Would like to exchange info with Rice Coffee's descendants and see photos of these Coffees. Have photos of Wm. and his family and extensive family history.
William Coffee Berry is supposedly the acknowledged son of Rice Coffee and Elizabeth Fields Berry, born in Wilkes Co. NC in 1796. My husband is the direct male descendant of Wm. and is checking into doing a DNA test that will set this genealogy puzzle straight, hopefully.
