Boston College has an Irish immigration resource online and is easily searchable.
Long ago people would run advertisements in the Boston Pilot newspaper seeking their missing relatives who also immigrated from Ireland. You can see the ads on the website. Check it out.

Message Board Post:
Hi my name is Mindy Piper and I am also looking for information on James Coffel. I have information on James Coffel. I believe he was Stoch-Irish.
Katie, Tom, and all,
I just ran across your letter from October. I tried to write to
Hendka847(a)cs.com three different times and they all bounced. I wanted to know more
about Josiah's father, William, who he said died in Tn. in 1840. I have had
(for years, I might add) his father as being James, B. 1801 Knox Co., TN, (where
there is a birth registered as Josiah Washington BROWN. , B. 1821) and his
mother was Martha CHAPPELL.
Now this might not be right, as there is another BROWN-CHAPPELL in TN.
about the same dates, but they are from Obion Co., in west TN. They had a
son, George Washington BROWN born a year later than my Josiah, but entirely
different wifves, and children and in two different sections of TN. I have some
info on the WEIR family from a woman in CA. who has written a book on them, but
she didn't know the parents of Josiah, either. The KINSER name just came up
the last six months. My father-in-law always said her name was Nancy KINNER,
but with limited education in those days, the 1800's the name might have been
written unreadable or been misheard. But, I'm beginning to think she might
have been married before to a KINSER. Her maiden name was COFFEY, daughter of
Manerva CARDWELL and Daniel COFFEY. (This is not the Daniel COFFEY who is
related to Daniel BOONE)and that's been proven. So I still don't know what's right
and what's wrong. THe COFFEE family was from Rockingham Co., N>C>
If anyone has the corrct address of Hendra847(a)cs.com, please write me
privately. I really would like to get this mess straightened out. It's been
over 30 years that I've been banging my head on this brick wall, and it's getting
tiresome. Any help or information would be most gratefully appreciated.
Thanks. Earlene Hutsell eroch25(a)aol.com

I am not related to this family, I am just passing on this information, which comes from a book titled "Runaway Women, Elopements And Other Miscreant Deeds, As Advertised In The Pennsylvania Gazette - 1728 -1789. (together with a few abused wives and unfortunate children)." Compiled by Judith Ann Highley Meier. Published by Closson Press. 1993. Page 67.
