Anita, I apologize that it has taken me so long to reply. Sounds like we're cousins. John S. LaRoza is my gr-gr
grandfather's (Peter LaRoza) brother. I have some info on him and would be happy to email you.
I just realized today that your email address was obvious when I went to print your message. So, if you don't receive this reply, I will send a reply to your email. Valerie

The following is an announcement from the New England Historic Genealogical
Society:
NEHGS is pleased to offer free access to its New England Historical and
Genealogical Register database on NewEnglandAncestors.org over the
Thanksgiving holiday weekend! Normally only available to NEHGS members, the
Register database will be accessible to everyone from Thursday, November 25
through Sunday, November 28, 2004. We encourage all NEHGS members to spread
the word about this offering, and we hope that those of you who are not
members find a veritable feast of ancestors in the Register database!
Published quarterly since 1847, The New England Historical and Genealogical
Register is the flagship journal of American genealogy and the oldest
journal in the field. The online database includes issues from 1847 to 1994.
The Register has featured articles on a wide variety of topics since its
inception, including vital records, church records, tax records, land and
probate records, cemetery transcriptions, obituaries, and historical
essays. Authoritative compiled genealogies have been the centerpiece of the
Register for more than 150 years. Thousands of New England families have
been treated in the pages of the journal and many more are referenced in
incidental ways throughout. The articles in the Register range from short
pieces correcting errors in print or solving unusual problems to larger
treatments that reveal family origins or present multiple generations of a
family.
Look for details on how to obtain free access to the Register in a special
eNews bulletin to be sent out Wednesday, November 24. A link will also be
available on that date on the home page of our website,

I am a descendant of Ambrose Coffee, Daniel Williams, John McGuire, John
Hammond and others who were both a Ft. Boonesborough and later in Morgan and
Magoffin Counties. John McGuire lived in 3 counties and never moved. The father
of Jefferson Davis, Samuel Davis was also in the same area and was a half
brother of Daniel Williams. I am interested in many wives names such as Violet
Crouch, Nancy Holden, Mary Emory Davis, Ailsey ?, Sarah Cook, Sarah Coffee. Any
ideas about any of them would be appreciated. Bob McGuire

Hi dee, I am also of many of the family names you mentioned from Morgan County, Kentucky. I am not a descendant of Ambrose Coffee but I am looking closely at him because I think there is a close connection between him and my ancestress Violet Crouch that married Daniel Williams. In 1795, Clark Co., Kentucky, Daniel Williams and wife Violet sold land that was part of his father EDWARD Williams pre-emption. In the 1787 Fayette County, Kentucky tithable list is Ambrose Coffee shown with an additional tithable named Francis Crouch. Francis Crouch is probably the Francis Crouch that married Hannah Hatton and/or Jenny Sparks later in Clark County, which would place him about the age of 1765. According to Ancestry.com Ambrose Coffee's wife was named Ailsey last name unknown ( but I don't know the documentation for this.) Also in 1787 tithable list is a Js. Crouch as additional tithable for a R. Hall. A Francis Crouch is mentioned again in 1809 as the witness to the marriage !
of Elender Hall and Otho Ashcraft. Who are these other Crouches mentioned in Clark County? I think it is possible that Ambrose Coffee's wife Ailsey might be a Crouch. I am just speculating here, because there really is no concrete evidence to point to. I think there must have been a close connection between Ambrose Coffee and Daniel Williams for Daniel to sell the land that he and his father gained through so much hardship. I think the connection is through Violet. Is the Francis Crouch that was living with Ambrose Coffee related to Violet? Is it possible that Ailsey, Violet, Francis and Js. (James or Joseph ?) Crouch are brother and sister? Does anyone out there know the parents of Francis Crouch or Js. (James or Joseph) Crouch. Does anyone know anymore about Elender Hall and Otho Ashcroft? Any help appreciated in trying to figure this out.
