Hi! I haven't posted on this site for a while, but am still consumed with this hobby! I've been working on trying to get my database as complete and accurate as possible, and am getting ready to submit my updated gedcom to my worldconnect site, which is:
http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=barbdale4
One of the things I am trying hard to do, is get all the obviously related people in my database, in their correct families. As you probably well know, the above named familes married and married and married in Johnson Co., Arkansas over the past 150+ years!
If you have any of the above surnames in your line, please check out my world connect site, and let me know of any additions, corrections, etc. If your line is in mine, I'd love for you to write me directly at:
barbarashultz(a)flash.net
so we can 'connect'!
My most direct lines are:
William C. Baskin (1782-1865) & Rebecca Gibson
Frederick Laster (1780-1852) & Nancy Smith
Thomas Yandell (b. 1803) & Lucretia Bowling
I hope to hear from a lot of you soon!
Barbara

Honor Coffee, b. ca 1837 (dau of Rev. John Coffee and Martha Singleton Coffee) married William E. Winters. The 1880 census shows Joseph Winters living with Rev. John & Martha Coffee as grandson. He is probably the son of Honor & William E. Winters. Hopefully this will give you some info for look up.

Gee, Sandy, I don't know. I have never seen any photos of my g-mother any earlier than about 1940 and she was married to my g-father (Sam Streun) with 4 children by then.
I just have so very little knowledge of Charley/Charlie and Martha Coffee/Coffey to go on. Anything you're willing to try to locate would be wonderful. I think it's certainly possible that we have a link!

Greetings:
I found my GGG Grandfather "L.B. Bray" (#276-B) in the 1850 C0ffee County Alabama Census On Line (Taken the 18th Day of Oct. 1850). I can read every age in L.B.'s Family except his Wife "ZINIA". I just cannot out make her age. If there is any way to determine her age as written on the Census, I would be forever Grateful.
Sincerely.

Frances Elizabeth Rock Coffee, 91, long time resident of Amarillo, TX,
went home to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on January 3, 2004, in Boerne,
TX, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law Kathy & Jimmy Simmons. She was
born July 10, 1912, in the snowcapped mountains of Pagosa Springs, CO,
Archuleta County. Her parents Fred and Ilah Davis Rock died when she was 5 years
old. Her French Canadian grandparents, Luke and Wilhelmina Rock raised Frances
and her brother, Edwin Lynn Rock. Grandfather Luke was a sawyer, and they went
where the work was, living in the sawmill towns of Dulce, NM, South Pagosa, CO,
Grants Mill, CO, Cimarron, NM, and Wild Horse Lake, the Jicarilla Apache
Indian Reservation. Later in life, Frances helped in the small dairy farm owned
by her Grandfather Luke. She played the piano and violin in her grandfather's
dance band, traveling to the little towns near her beloved Pagosa Springs. Each
Sunday in Pagosa Springs, Frances played the organ at the Catholic Church,
and the piano at the Methodist Church, also playing piano for the silent picture
shows. She was a switchboard operator when the Telephone Company came to
town. Frances graduated from High School at Pagosa Springs, CO in 1931. She was
active in the school band and the girls basketball team, and played the piano
at her own graduation. While on a fishing trip with his Dad, Oran Coffee, a
cowboy and rancher from a Texas Panhandle pioneer family, met the feisty young
Frances, the summer following her graduation, when she worked at the Pagosa
Spa and Cabins. They were married August 8, 1931, and moved to Amarillo, TX
where they raised four daughters. Frances delighted in her daughters and
grandchildren, teaching them to sew and to darn, basic knowledge that was crucial to
daily living in her day. She remembered as a child knitting blocks for blankets
to send to the soldiers in France during WW1. She told us of her grandfather
wanting to teach her to drive their 1912 Hupmobile that had carbide lights and
a crank starter. She was born the year the Titanic sank. Frances remembered a
time as a child when she was very sick at school, her Grandmother asked an
Apache man to drive her home in a buckboard wagon. She saw many changes in her
life.
She lived most of her life in Amarillo, TX, where she was active in
square dancing, PTA, San Jacinto Methodist Church. She was a Girl Scout leader and
Girl Scout Neighborhood Chairman for many years. After her husband Oran
passed away, she played the piano and worked the snack bar at the Amarillo Senior
Citizens Center. Her many friends and family in Amarillo, TX, Dallas, TX,
Kootenai, Idaho, and Pagosa Springs, CO will miss her.
During her last years, Frances clipped and sent grocery coupons to
family members and families of our countries Armed Forces until her failing
eyesight forced her to quit. She stayed feisty to the very end.
Survivors are daughters Ollie Ruth Coffee Kennedy of Dallas, TX, Ilah Coffee
Merriman of Dallas, TX, Mina Coffee Barringer of Kootenai, ID, and son-in-law
and daughter, Jimmy & Kathy Coffee Simmons of Boerne, TX, 9 grandchildren,
16 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grand children, and numerous extended
families also survive her. She was preceded in death by her grand parents,
parents, brother, husband and one grandchild.
Funeral Services will be held at Llano Park Cemetery in Amarillo. Pall
bearers are grandsons: Scot Simmons, Mike Merriman, Mark Kennedy, John Crocker,
Troy Sartors, and Mike Larrison. Services will be conducted by Pastor Randy
Srader of Southwest Baptist Church, Amarillo. She will be laid to rest beside
her husband, a WW1 veteran, Oran Coffee (son of Woodson Coffee). In lieu of
flowers, memorial donations may be made to VistaCare Hospice Foundation, 420
Water Street, Suite 104, Kerrville, TX 78028 or your favorite charity.

Thanks

Let's start the New Year right!
Now is a great time to browse through your files, dig out those notebooks,
thumb through your notes, and send in brick walls........ Post the info you
have on unknown spouses and "lost" relatives....... Try to locate links between
uncertain family members......
Just as a friendly reminder, if you haven't done so lately, why don't you
take a minute and back up your files to disc, so you don't have to worry about
losing the valuable information you have?
Within the next couple of weeks, we will most likely have new members
joining, once they install their new Christmas presents :) Some of them will be
brand new to Genealogy.
Now would also be a great time for sending in any tips you have to help out a
beginner!
My favorite....start with a notebook. Make a section for each Surname.
Notebooks are easy to expand and split up as your family becomes bigger. (I have
nine!) I keep all family files together, and keep a seperate notebook for
original documents, and relevant copies of documentation, also sectioned by
Surname. Remember, if you can't PROVE it, it isn't FACT!!
As always, a safe and Happy New Year to all! Happy Hunting!! Jackie
