From genealogy I have, Mary Donelson Coffee is neice of Rachel Donelson
Jackson. They even have it wrong at the military park at Horseshoe Bend.

Gen. John Coffee, son of Joshua Coffee and Elizabeth Graves, fought with Gen.
Andrew Jackson in the Battle of Horseshoe Bend against the Creeks. He also
was with Jackson in the Battle of NO. This is my John Coffee. Betty.
I am saving all of this info about the coffee's because these people are my
children's ancestors. We have a book published by Ronnie Haraway who is a
descendent of the Coffee's and I am comparing this info with the info in his
book. If I find anything of interest I will relay it to you. Gloria
Yes, they were brother-in-laws, but they are related by marriage. Mary
Donelson Coffee was the sister of Rachel Donelson Jackson. If you visit the
Hermitage in Nashville, TN you will hear Mary Donelson Coffee's name
mentioned several times, because they visited often. Gloria
Thank you, I am going to do some more research on him, I know that Davy
Crockett fought in the Creek Indian war, and I believe that this John Coffee
was related to my John Coffee, we will see. Gloria

There are eleven people in the Coffe Plot. Plot 4 Lot 249.
There was a cemetery on Lake Merrtt and several on the list were moved from
there to Mountain View.
The office at MV has the people list on the lot map.
I first became aware of the Coffee site when Iwas in Honolulu in 1995 where
my Uncle was dying. Going through his stuff I ran across a small piece of
paper with the information in my Grandmother's handwriting. She died in 1974
at age 91.
Hettie Coffee March 5 1871-Recorded as "Daughters of the Forest" This is one
of the Indian women.
Alexander P. Greene July 14, 1880
Andrew J. Coffee Apr 22, 1882--Child. My grandmother's brother.
The following four have the same date. Sept 26, 1882. I believe thesewere
moved from Lake Merritt. Dates are not the dates of first burial. So says my
Grandmother's note.
Nellie Posy Coffee -child
Jessie E Greene-child
Nellie Greene-child
Jessie Posey Greene- my third Great Grandmother
Millie C. Pabama April 11, 1888 Recorded as "Daughters of the Forest" This is
one of the Indian women.
Posey G. Coffee July 14 1888 My Great Grandmother
Andrew J. Coffee Mar 14 1891-My Great, Great Grandfather
Elizabeth A. H. Coffee Sept 13, 1913 - My Great, Great Grandmother.
I have no idea what the Daughters of the Forest is all about or how AJ Coffee
got the women.
What is your interest in Mountain View?
What is your last name?
Where do you live?
If you do any work on McDougal, Rear Admiral, USN, let me know I have some
info on him. Grave is one the hill. He was a famous Naval officer. Two
destroyers named after him.
We have a nice small Memorial Day service here in Benicia. I hope that the
Mare Island cemetery will be opened up. Aj. Coffee's sister Kate Coffee and
husband are there . She was the Mare Island lighthouse keeper from 1881 to
1917.
Stay in touch this gets interesting.

Andrew Jackson Coffee. Brevet Lt Col is my gg grandfather. He is the son of
Gen John Coffee of TN & AL. Gen Juhn died in 1833 when AJ was a teenager. He
had a guardian appointed. He went to West Point at age 15.(1837) He was asked
to leave because he was Deficient in conduct. He returned to the Point but
resigned again. I don't know how he reentered the Army and received his
commission. He was in the Regular Army not a volunteer.I checked with West
Point about his staus. He has cadet number x1841 not a Cullum number.
He was on General Zachary Taylor's staff in the Mexican American war 1846-47.
General Taylor appointed him Brevet Lt Col at the battle of Buena Vista.
John "Jack" Coffee Hays is a whole story by himself. He is in the Texas
Ranger Hall of Fame .Texas A&M University Library has lots of information on
him.
Andrew Jackson Coffee and "Jack" Coffee Hays are second cousins. The
relationship is through the Donelson line. If you picked up the brochure at
Mountain View you will Hays as one of their distinguished guests.
There are nine people buried in the Coffee plot at Mountain View Cemetery. I
have gg grandparents and g grandparents there. Two of the internees are
Indian. It is said that AJ brought them back with him because they were
orphaned. Have not found any thing to fill in the details. I keep looking.
