I know it's been a while since Robin posted her message, but if anyone knows how to contact her, please let me know. She's my cousin whom I haven't seen since the mid-'70s.
Robin, come back!

Robin--Is your father Rtd. Staff Sergeant Robert John Coffee, of Miami, who was a POW in the Korean War? If so, this is your cousin Mary in California. If not, my ancestors were also from Geneva, Florida. My paternal grandfather was Herbert Vivian Coffee, b Nov 1902 in Geneva. His father, Hill Brian Coffee, b May 1857 or '58 of Madison Co., was a ferryman who, I am told, died as a result of severe head injury sustained while retrieving something from the bottom of a lake in FL. He is said to have hit his head against the underside of a boat when he attempted to surface. His father or grandfather was Joshua B. Coffee, b cd 1812, possibly in GA. HV was subsequently raised by his grandmother to whom he referred as "a crazy Indian." HV married Johnie Alene Mathis, b Nov 1898 in Adel, GA. Her GGgrandfather was Aaron Jernigan, the man who settled what is now known as Orlando, FL, in 1842. The town was named "Jernigan" until renamed "Orlando" in 1857. Let me know if this!

Welcome to the revamped Coffee Message Board. This board is a merging of the old Coffee GenConnect Boards and the Ancestry.com Coffee message board. You may now post all of your queries and data about the Coffee surname on this one board.
When you post a new message, please be sure to find the drop down menu for the classification of the post. The default position for right now is for queries. Hopefully they will change this to "query". Other classifications to use are Bible, biography, birth, cemetery, census, death, deed, immigration, lookup, marriage, military, obituary, pension, and will. By classifying your post correctly, other researchers will be able to search just on wills, obits, marriages, etc.
Also please notice the surname box. Please include ONLY the surnames that are included in the message. DO NOT include all of the names you are researching. Otherwise people will find your post in their searches and it won't have anything to do with what they are looking for. Please type the names with a comma and a space inbetween. i.e. Coffee, Coffey.
Check under "admin info" for messages from your administrator. Included is a link to the Coffee Family Genelaogy Website.
Once all the glitches are fixed by the management team, this should be a great message board.

Colleen & Laura and all on our OREGON TRAIL Mail List;
Funny you should mention COFFEY's - I have some too!
My great grandfather's sister Eva Jane BILYEU, b 4 Apr 1872 Scio, Linn,
OR; d 10 Aug 1960; buried Kalama IOOF Cem, Kalama, Cowlitz, WA. She m/1
Green Monroe COFFEY 9 Jul 1890 Linn Co, OR. Green was b 8 Sep, 1855 Mill
Creek, OR; d 11 Oct 1924 bur Kalama IOOF Cem, Kalama, Cowlitz, WA. She
m/2 to a Mr. ENGLUND.
I believe Green Monroe COFFEY's parents were Thomas J. (or C.) COFFEY
who was born 27 Oct 1815, he died July 1, 1859 and was buried at Mill
Creek, Oregon cemetery in Marion County, OR. & Luciller Jane BAKER who
was b 10 Dec 1823; died April 17, 1865 & was buried at BAKER Cemetery, 8
mi below Eugene, OR. They were m on April 26, 1838 and they had 9
children including Green Monroe COFFEY. Green Monroe COFFEY & Eva Jane
BILYEU had 2 children; Vera A. COFFEY on June 26, 1891 and Darrel Wilbur
on June 23, 1901. In 1861 Luciller Jane BAKER COFFEY married Elijay
RHEA and to them 2 daughters, Elizah & Evaline, were born. Elijay RHEA
had 7 children and was a widower when he married her.
I have a great deal more info on the BILYEU side, it being my direct
line.
I also have a COFFEY / BILYEU Bible (many pages) I have all the entries
on if anyone is interested, although I do not see a Catharine Jane
COFFEY or the PORTER surname. I do however see my above Luciller Jane
BAKER who was b Dec 10, 1823 who married my Thomas J or C COFFEY and
also the mention of a BAKER Cemetery 8 miles south of Eugene, OR. These
BIBLE records include a great deal on the COFFEY's and include these
surnames; AWBURY BAKER BARNS BECK BILYEU BURNS CHRISTENSON COFFEY COKER
DAWDY DEMME DENNIS DICKENSON DICKEY DICKINSON DONALDSON DORRIS
FARRINGTON FOSTER HUNTINGTON JACKSON JORDAN KEY KISAMORE LEWIS LINTHIAN
MOFFITT NEELEY PARKS PIETILA PONDEXTAR PONDEXTER PRINGER RHEA RICHARDSON
SCOTT SPRINGER WHITE WITHROW & WOOLSEY.
I find it interesting Laura mentioned below a Doctor Dorsey S. BAKER of
the Walla Walla Baker-Boyer Bank and that there was a mention of
1848; but I don't see you listing a Thomas COFFEY in your 1848 listing.
Now I am curious if and when Thomas J. or C. COFFEY and his wife
Luciller Jane BAKER came across the trail (probably before 1855) and if
they had a Donation land Claim or not. Does anyone know?
Anyone else have COFFEY's or fill in any blanks for me?

Dr. John Woodson and his wife Sarah came to Jamestown in 1619. And we have
the Woodson name all through my family. Elizabeth Woodson Coffee married
Stewart Jackson in 1808 in VA. Her father was Thomas Graves Coffee. The
Graves is from Capt. Thomas Graves who came to Jamestown in 1608. Betty.

Surname: Coffee
-------------------------
I am looking for any info. ref. Willie Clarence Coffee, abt late 1800's
in Rhine Ga. I believe he died in Florida but unsure. He was married to
Revella Holmes Walker or Revella Walker Holmes. They had several children;
Mattie, Clarence Jr.; Lillie; Hattie Mae. Also any info. ref. his Father
and Mother would be greatly appreciated.
Richard,
You ask, "where the first name of Woodson came from? "
That is a very good question. My grandfather, Woodson Coffee, was named after
his great Uncle Woodson, brother of Logan Coffee. Other than that, we have
often wondered where the name Woodson originated. I think that Logan's
parents may have had friends or neighbors named Woodson and thus named
Logan's brother "Woodson," but that is purely speculation on my part. I
should probably go to the census of Adair Co. Kentucky, where cousins, James
Coffee & Betsy Coffee were married and see if a family of the name Woodson
was there. Their son, Woodson, never married. Another idea might be the KY
governor, maybe, or a statesman from that area whom they admired? If you have
any leads, please let me know.
