I am still trying to locate Coffee family living in the Durant -Mead Area at least around 1897. Believe the father of this family was William Coffee and wife was Sylvia Harville. I am not positive on the wife's maiden name, however. This was a second marriage for both parties. Sylvia was married to a man named Welch. Mr. Coffee's first wife is unknown. Children from Mr. Coffee's union with one or both of these ladies included James Walter Coffee who married Myrtle Taylor, Bell Coffee who married John Grider, Myrtle "Ivy" Coffee( born 1905) who married John Clarence Hibdon, Mattie Coffee (born 1885 ) who married Charles E. Smith, Pearl Coffee who married a man with the last name of Bennett in 1925, Ada Coffee ( born 1891) married George W. Cooper (both buried at the Mead Cemetery in Mead , Okla), and a son by the name of Dutch Coffee. There are possibly other siblings that are not known. Have not been able to locate information on either parent . Do any of these names !
sound familiar to anyone? Any help would be appreciated and welcomed.
In Feb 99 Mike Scobee (scubdu(a)ntws.net) was researching this line. You may
already know Mike, but if not perhaps he has updated info that will be useful.
Good Luck,
Jack

I've recently found a cousin who is descended from Matilda Ellen
Erickson, b abt 1856 where? who married Stephen Jesse "Hawk" Scobee b
Mar 14, 1851 in Putnam Co., MO., and she says Matilda was Native
American. Anyone know about that? Their daughter, Jennie V., is this
girl's grandmother. (did anyone know they had a daughter named Jennie
V.?)
On Jennie's maternal side:
Matilda's mother was Elizabeth J. Ledford & her father, John Diedrick
Erickson and Elizabeth Ledford's parents were George William Ralls
Ledford & Eliza G. Baird.
On Jennie's paternal side:
Stephen Jesse "Hawk" (nickname) Scobee's parents were Stinson Scobee b
Clark Co., KY d Putnam Co., MO. & Nancy Ann Coffee/Coffey b KY d Putnam
Co., MO (their 2nd marriages)(She may be known to you as Nancy Ann
Beard)
Family tradition says that Nancy was an Indian maiden... but no one
seems to know why.
Anyone know of any American Indian in these families?

I am slowing adding census information to the new Coffee census page on The
Coffee Family website. Right now I am just adding the Coffee spelling of the
surname but will also be adding the Coffey variation. Currently, it is an
index. I hope to include the complete information at some time. However,
due to time constraints, I don't know that I will be able to do all of the
lookups in the libarary like I have done for some of my surname websites. If
you have some of this census data, please share with the website. You can
send it to me at EleanorCol(a)aol.com and I will post it to the page. Or if
you would like to volunteer to take a state or section of a state and do the
lookups, that would be wonderful! If you know of some names that have been
omitted because they were not in the index that I was looking at, please send
them to me. I plan to include names, ages, birthplace, occupations, and RE
and PE values on the page. This census page will contain up to and including
the 1860 census. I sure could use some help.
Also added to The Coffee Family website is a page for slave information. If
you have anything of this nature, please send to me and I will add it to the
page.

I am researching a William Coffee that had legal guardianship over 4 minor Tompkins children in 1829. I will write the information where I found this it may help.
Belmont County, Ohio Chancery Records
Page 203
Danile McVicker and Margaret, his wife ; vs: Edward Tompkins, Lewis Tompkins, Sarah Tompkins, and Benjamin Tompkins deceased. On the 29th day of April, 1829 Daniel McVickar and Margaret, his wife, filed in the court of Common Pleas their petition for partition - Benjamin Tompkins died seized of Lot NO. 12 in the townof Belmont in said county, leaving issue of his body said Margaret intermarried with said McVickar, and Edward, Lewis, Sarah and Benjamin Tompkins. THE 4 LATTER ARE MINORS OF WHOM WILLIAM COFFEE IS THE LEGAL GUARDIAN , said decendent left a widow, Sarah Tompkins who is now living. All above persons now reside in Belmont County. Your petitioners are entitled to 1/5th part of said lot, subject to dower of the widow.
I am wondering who these Tompkins children belonged to and why someone else has gaurdianship ove them.
Any information will be greatly appreciated.
