Maggie,
When I started my family search many miles away from Rockbridge County, VA
and Augustua County I only had my grandfather's birth certicate. His mother
was Rebecca Petis Grant, daughter of Pyrmous and Mariah or maria Grant of
area. My grandfather was the son of Jordan and Rebecca Grant Coffey. I have
seen the name of Sophia in the family someplace. Ma;ybe we are cousins, who
knows...

On the birth certificate for my gggrandfather, Stephen Alfred MATTHEWS his
mother's maiden name is Sophie Ann COAFFEE and his father's name is Jesse
Daniel MATTHEWS.
This is a very unusual surname and I have a few other family members with it.
Would the name now have changed to Coffee. I would be interested to hear
from anyone who has that name in their family tree.
