Well, weak taste usually means not enough coffee, bitter usually means
too much. Do you feel like Goldilocks? ;-)
I usually buy French or Italian roast (these are the darkest roasts) and
then grind them as fine as possible, as if for espresso. Then I
generally use 1/2 scoop for each cup of coffee. It turns out strong but
not bitter. Unfortunately, you'll probably just have to continue to
experiment. Try brewing just a cup or two at a time and keep notes of
how much you use and adjust accordingly. Bitter taste can also result
from leaving the caraffe of coffee on the heating element too long after
it's done brewing.
I think you mentioned that you use a Krups, no? For personal use they
don't get much better.

I have tried several brands of coffee and different amounts but they
always
turn out weak or bitter. I want to be able to enjoy the premium coffees
but
I don't want to buy them and then not brew them right. I want it strong
without being bitter. I have a grinder and have experimented with it
also.
The best coffee I ever made was boiled over a campfire while working
cattle.
Do I need a different type of brewing pot?

Can you tell us in what way it doesn't taste right Jo Ann? Is it too
bitter, too strong, does it have a metallic taste, &c.?

I am new to this list and wondering if someone could help me make a good
pot
of coffee. I have a Krups drip coffee maker with a gold filter. I do
everything the book tells me but it just doesn't taste right. What am I
doing wrong?
