Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Sorry I did not get back to you sooner. I'm going togo through my file and
specify exactly what proof materials we have. It will just take a little
bit of time since I want to make sure I have the correct stuff. I'll get
back to, hopefully today.

Hi Jody,
It is always nice to get up-dates as far as Cofer genealogy. I would like
to know what was source of information to prove your new info to be correct?
Know that you have put a lot work into this research, but the source is also
important, and need to be known.
Personally, I always take any data that is in Ancestral files/ or IGI as a
clue rather than fact. There are too many error in them.

Dear Cofer researchers/family;
Up until now it seems that most everyone has had Jane M. Cofer, (born 1825, Cape Girardeau, MO, daughter of Elliot Cofer and Mary Hansford) as, Mary Jane or Jane Mary, the wife of William H. Frasier. In fact if you check the Ancestral files, every listing is Jane Mary or Mary Jane, with W. Frasier as the spouse. However, this is not the case, that data is completely wrong. The proven facts are as follows. Jane's name doesn't have "Mary" in it anywhere, she is Jane Melvina Cofer, born May 7, 1825. She married Frederick Winkleman and only Fred Winkleman before 1849. Her first child is Barbara Francis Winkleman, born May 20, 1849
.
I believe the reason for the confusion is because at the same time as the 1850 census, Fred Winkleman happen to be escorting his brother, Peter Winkleman, and Peter's family out to California. Jane Melvina, and there then one year old daughter, stayed with Jane's parents during his absence. If you look at the 1850 census, you see her listed under Elliot and Mary Cofer as Jane M., but they failed to indicate that she was a Winkleman. Probably introduced as their daughter, but failing to mention the last name. A common mistake. The next confusing part is that her daughter Barbara is listed on the next page as Barbary F., again omitting the Winkleman. (You might note that in the 1880 census, Barbara is still going by Barbary.) This is all proven.
As for the real Mary Cofer, Jane had at least two older sisters listed in the 1840 census. We know she had one older sister named Catherine, who married Aaron Link around 1836. And I'm certain that "Mary Frasier" is Jane's sister. The "Mary" that married William H. Frashier.
Anyway, as a genealogist (and Jane's great-great-great-great-grandaughter), I thought you'd like to know, so that you can correct any errors.
