Please note new email address. I do not know any males in my family with a Copher/Cofer surname. The DNA study sounds interesting. I would be interested in the results. I have limited Cofer/Copher information, but would be happy to share. My Charity Cofer/Copher who married Jesse Holleman was the daughter of Thomas Cofer.

Linda,
I have been looking for a Cofer from the Isle of Wight to work with us in our Cofer DNA study. My ancestor originally came to VA. I like to think he came because other family members were there already and he wanted to join them. After a few years in VA he moved to MD where the family resided for about 150 years.
I am the administrator of the Cofer family DNA study. This is a simple test where we can take a "Q-tip" like swab of the inside of the cheek and determine if we have a common ancestor. The test is simple and secure. We only look at the Y-Chromosome which stays constant through many generations passed from father to son. This means we have to have someone who is surnamed Cofer for the sample.
I would be very interested in providing any more information you might need. One hope is to be able to identify the source of the family before they immigrated.

I am one of the administrators of the Cofer DNA study. We would love to have someone from this line tested for our DNA study to determine which line Simeon's descendants represent. We need a male descendant that is surnamed Cofer. If any of you of this line would like more information, please contact me.
The test is very simple. Just a "Q-tip" type swab from the inside of the cheek is all we need.

I'm going through the Cofer/Copher line and have reached Simeon so found your messages. I saw that you received info from someone that Simeon went from TN to GA but didn't know his parents. It is my understanding that Simeon B. Cofer was named after Simeon Buford, a neighbor of Joel Cofer when he lived in Virginia. Simeon bought land next to Joel in 1784 and then Joel moved to North Carolina after 1801 where he died. Several of his children then moved to TN. If you would like more about this, please contact me via E mail.
