We've believed our Simeon B. Cofer came from Tennessee.
His sons are Augustus E. Cofer and William Cofer who lived
and inherited land from Simeon their father in/near Statham, Georgia.
My mother, Mamie Jewel Cofer's great great grandfather was Simeon B. Cofer.
Her grandfather was Augustus E. Cofer, a Civil War vet.
Her father was Pleasant Asbury Cofer, a Methodist Minister and writer of hymns.
(Their home was - at/near Jackson County, Statham, Georgia in 1800s.

Pat,
I just read your message tonight, however will not be able to write much as I'm about to fall asleep. I will write later and provide you with the info I have found on my family to date. Also, I do believe the best way to tie all our families together is by DNA testing.
Rick

Pat: My name is Gary White. I live in Aurora, Mo. Jonathon D. White and Margaret Cofer White are my ggggrandparents.I am searching for info on Jonathon's father. I think his name was Joseph D. White. From what I have read, he died in the war of 1812 about 1815 with Andy Jackson and was buried near Mobile Ala. After his death Margaret remarried Baldwin Underwood. They moved to Newton Co. Mo. where they raised about 5 or 6 more children. This is only about 30 west of where I live.Hardin Cofer married Sarah Estes, OlderDaughter of John Calder Estes from Va. and his wife Margaret Jones. They all moved to Stone Co. Mo about the same time as Johnathon and younger sister Sarah moved up here. I would like any info you might have on Joseph D. White or his father who I think is Either John or William White Orig.from N.C.I also have quite a bit of info on the Cofers and the people who moved up to Stone Co. Mo. Gary

Steve, For some reason, I do not think I ever saw your reply to my correspondence on the Cofer list. My apologies. I would really like to get you involved in the project.
We have identified at least four and possibly more Cofer lines in the US. This came as a surprise to us as the name is not very common.
Is the email address shown on the correspondence still applicable?
I hesitate to post the DNA results on the list. Please let me know by comfirming your email to me directly at debsc at houston dot rr dot com. As you can see, I have camoflauged the email address. Please insert the appropriate symbols without spaces. I will then share all the appropriate information. In the meantime, you can check out the website at www.FamilyTreeDNA.com
