The biblical "Coen" you refer to is spelled "Cohen" and that tribe was one of the high priests of the Jews. Stop in to any large Jewish Temple and ask the Rabbi. Most are nice and will fill you in. The name "Coen" can be found in Ireland, Italy, Germany and the Netherlands where it originated in recent centuries with the Vikings. They raided many countries in the 7th Century and spread the name. Be that as it may, the earliest I have found the name "Coen" is a couple of centuries before that. My family, so far, is traceable to the 1200's, in Ireland and England, with my branch from County Galway in Ireland, the cities of Gort and Kinvara. Hope this helps.

I have been researching my family. My grandfather was Michael Carr--born Newbridge, Co. Galway son of Martin and Catherine Quinn--Catherine was the Daughter of Patrick and Kitty Kyne (or Coen) Quinn. On the manifests for my grandfather's two sisters--they were suppose to go to a cousin Ellen Coen in Baltimore--Linden Street. But they never made it passed NYC. From the records I have determined Ellen was from the Ballygar area--bordering on Roscommon. The records for the Quinn's seem to use the name Kyne and Coen and Cone interchangably. So I am somewhat at a loss. I also found a Winifred Coen going to her sister Ellen Coen at Linden Street in Baltimore. It appears this is the same Ellen Coen.
Does anyone have any information on this family of Coen or Kyne's? Thank
