Notes on Marysville Tribune by Margaret Main Bouic (Mrs. Fay) of Ostrander, Ohio
5-15-1850, Kansas, Missouri, April 24, 1850. I embrace the present opportunity of informing you, and our numerous friends of our whereabouts and welfare. The Darby Plains California Company, composed of the following named persons: E.P. Hathaway, Charles B. Woodworth, John Williams, Daniel Coe, George Fuller, C.P. Garlick, Robert Gill, Joseph Coe, John Jourdan, David Parks, James H. Irwin, James Thompson, and Thomas Wilson landed at this place ....the 21st inst all in good health and fine spirits...... Bridgeport.
1-8-1851. Mr. Coe and son, who went from this county to California last spring, returned home a few weeks since. Mr. Coe was in a very feeble state of health when he arrived; bu we learn he is now recovering. Since their return we regret to learn the death of Mr. E.P. Hathaway and a Mr. Williams, who went out to California in the same company with Mr. Coe and son. They died of cholera at San Francisco, being then on their way home. They both leave families residing near Milford in this county.
1-22-1851. Died near Milford on the 17th inst. Mr. Daniel Coe age 50 years. Mr. Coe recently returned from California in a feeble state of health, but his friends, we believe, entertained strong hopes of his recovery until within a few days of his death.
2-14-1855. Married in this place at the residence of Judge Cassil, in the evening of the 8th inst by Rev. J.W. Drake: Mr. James W. Robinson, Esq. & Mary J. Cassil (ucm 2238); Mr. Lafayette Swain M.D. of Milford Centre and Miss Elizabeth Coe (ucm 2235); Mr. Philip Coe and Miss Louisa Smith (ucm 2237); Mr. John Robinson and Miss Sarah Coe all of this place and vicinity (ucm 2236). Editorial about "Wholesale Marriage" this paper. [I believe that "ucm" refers to Union County, Ohio, Marriage records.]
