William Albert Coe was my Grandmother's brother. I knew he had enlosted in the U.S.A. but was in the Canadian Army. On demoblisation he married in England and then returned to Canada with his wife. They had no children and as far as I know lived out mtheir days in Ottawa. My mother corresponded on occasion and he must have died in the mid 1950's. My own grandmother, my mother's mother was Lilian May Walden (nee Coe). She died at 44 so I never knew her. I had an a GreatUncle Joseph Coe, who I never met, who had a daughter who never married. My Great Aunt Daisy I knew very well, she never married. I am interested about Charles' brother and would like to find out more.
Regards
Glenda in New Zealand

Glenda,
Wonderful to hear from you. The Australian Coe is a descendant of Charles Coe's brother George, who was also transported to Tasmania, for stealing eight pigs. His name is Gary Coe and he would very much like to get in contact with you. Can you supply an email address that I could give to him?
When your message arrived, I was looking at your grandfather's brother William Albert Coe's WW I draft registration papers. He registered with the US Army in Los Angeles, but ended up serving with the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force.
Thank You,
Carl Robert Coe

I'm afraid my Coe anscestor was no shining light. He was my late mother's great-grandfather. He was born in Essex about 1814. He married Susan Tabard and they had one son Job. On 31 Dec 1839 he was found guilty of stealing an ass and a bag of potatoes. At Chelmsford Court he was sentanced to 7 years transportation to Van Dieman's Land (Tasmania). He was held for 12 months on a hulk in Portsmouth called "Leviathan". On 30 Nov 1840 he saled on the "Lady Raffles" to Van Dieman's land. He served his setance there and in 1847/48 he received a ticket of leave which allowed him to go to mainland Australia (and no further). After that I lost track of him as two Charles Coe's went to Australia ten years apart. I do not know which family you are in touch with. Meantime his wife Susan in England had taken up with one another man and in 1853 married him declaring herself to be a widow. She must have waited the required time which is seven years now, I don't know what it was then. Charle!
s' son Job (my great grandfather) became a carter had a family and prospered in a modest way and lived into his eighties. Oddly this was into my mother's lifetime but she never met him or the rest of her mother's family. Life is strange. Hope this is of help.
Regards Glenda

Hi Brian,
We may have corresponded previously. I saw your family tree on Ancestry and noticed you descend from the Coe family of Saffron Walden, Essex.
As you may be aware, for the last several years we have been conducting a worldwide Coe DNA Project to scientifically discover our roots and relationships. We currently have 121 Coes from around the world participating. Unfortunately, we do not have a DNA sample from the Saffron Walden family.
Would you consider participating in the project? All it takes is a simple cheek swab and science does the rest.
You can order a Y-DNA37 test kit (needed for the project) at the following link and receive The Coe Group discount: http://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?Group=Coe
We just received DNA results back from a Romford, Essex, Coe and discovered he was part of the ancient Coe family of Gestingthorpe, Essex.
I would be happy to answer any questions you may have.
Thank You,
Carl Robert Coe

Glenda,
I am Carl Robert Coe of Marysville, OH USA. I have spent the last 34 years working on a comprehensive record of the Coe family, and am administrator of The Coe Group on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/2214285914/?fref=ts
We recently received a DNA sample from a member of your family who lives in Australia. Through DNA testing, we discovered that you belong to the prominent Coe family of East Anglia, whose most famous member was Sir John Coe (1340-1415) of Gestingthorpe, Essex, and who was a captain of The White Company, made famous by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (Sherlock Holmes) in his novel of the same name.
Following is a link to your family history: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=carlrcoe&id=I11...
Most Coes here in the USA (and there are thousands) share your same Y-DNA.
I would be delighted to hear back from you.
Thank You,
Carl Robert Coe
