I believe the Rueben Coe that you mention is the brother of my g-g grandfather, Benjamin Coe- son of Jacob. Many were loggers.

Following is a link to a complete history of this family. There is no Native American connection on the Coe side and no known Native American connection on the Bullin side:

Jacob Coe was the older brother of my great-grandfather, Ariel Coe. Confusing with so many names the same. I have some information on Jacob - not a lot, as the Ariel Coes seem to be elusive. Their father was Rueben Coe, who, as nearly as I can make out, died in the Mexican-American War in the 1860's. By then Jacob was already in Oregon, listed in a census in Hood River County. Ariel Coe was much younger and was listed in the 1850 census as living with his sister, Lydia Snyder in Warren Co. Illinois. Ariel married Cornelia Penny in 1861 and in the early l870's moved to Oregon. First to Astoria, where Jacob was living, and then to Brownsville, Oregon. They moved to what was then Hare, Oregon, and later the name was changed to Knappa. Ariel and Cornelia had seven children. The next to youngest, Ada Melissa was my grandmother. Unfortunately that branch of the Coes seemed suseptible to tuberculosis and several of the children died from it. I was born in Astoria, as wer!
e my father and all my siblings. My mother was born in Knappa-Svenson. Have you been in contact with Carl Coe? He seems to be the keeper of Coe records, and maybe able to help you more. It is always nice to find out there are more living and breathing Coes from this branch. Ariel's (my grandfather) ran out of mail heirs. He had two grandsons who lived to maturity, but neither had children.I live in Pleasant Hill, Oregon, and rarely get to Astoria. It is too far to go and glean information all in the same day. Dena-
If you search back through the Coe posts you will see a few I have written. I do have a photo of Eliza Jane as a child on a scow with all of the Coe's- my grandfather, Chantson H. Coe, gave it to me and was able to name everyone in the photo.
He also told me about an opera house and remembers taking beer in a bucket down the alley to deliver it somewhere- he was born in 1901 so it must have been around 1907 in Astoria but he isn't sure who owned the saloon then- which family member owned it ect.. I too have the Robert Coe book and found nothing either. I did visit the bed and breakfast several years ago when I was in Astoria. Have you found the newspaper story about their cat that died? You can ask Lisa Penner at the library as she is the one who showed it to me, they printed an obit in the paper for their cat- which I found funny and interesting. Also, Lisa said there is a chair that Jacob Coe made that was donated to the historical museum but when I was there they were in the process of remodeling so I wasn't able to see it- darn! I am not sure where Jacob is buried either as we can't find it- my father, who is now 81, says he remembers it being in Warrenton. My grandfather knew Eliza and told me some stories !
about her and her marriage as well as pointed out the house they lived in- I think it's still there before you get to Astoria on the main highway. Grandfather also told me that the men came across the plains and the women around the horn and that the Coe's brought the first piano to Oregon and that is was later donated to the high school. I have not been able to verify that as I never seem to have enough time when I visit Astoria- I live in Idaho. Please get back to me when you can.

I have been meaning to introduce myself for some time now. Jacob Coe is my great, great, great grandfather. His daughter Eliza Jane(Cole) is my great, great grandmother. I have visited her grave and that of her husband Charles Cole in the Warren, Oregon, cemetery my whole life. I moved to Astoria, Oregon a couple of years ago. I had not known anything of family before Eliza Jane until then. I discovered her marriage announcement to Charles on microfilm at the local library. This led me to Elizabeth (Ross)Coe. Her father Job Ross had two houses in Astoria that are now a bed and breakfast. My father had always heard from his grandmother, Amy Cole(Eliza's daughter)that we were from an old pioneer family. I had no idea how far back that would go! Do you know where Jacob Coe is buried? I have visited his wife Elizabeth's grave in the Ross family plot at Greenwood cemetery. Is there anything else you can share about this arm of the family? Do you anything about the saloon or oper!
a house that Jacob owned? He was also an assistant foreman of the Astoria Fire Department in 1873. Do you know the cause of his death? The book,"Robert Coe, Puritan lists nothing about Ariel Coe or descendants because records are not available. Thank you, Dena Williams

Through recent DNA testing I have found that not only am I not related to the English Coe’s, but that I am probably of Jewish descent. The furthest back I can trace my ancestors is Albany, NY.
Are there any other Coe’s on this list that have Jewish ancestors?

2. The -D mode and now the "digest" mode. All digest

I am trying to find the relation ship of Maria Coe who in the 1851 census lived next door to George Coe (44 High Street, Long Melford).
Maria was married to Thomas How and her parents were Thomas Coe and Susan Hill. Maria had a brother George born 1812 (but this is not the one who lived opposit).
George Coe married to Anna Alice Tiffin was born in 1797 and died in 1845. His parents were George Coe (1766-1840) and wife Sarah (1769-1826). They lived at High Street Farm, Long Melford, Suffolk, England
