Shoshana,
You descend from a very interesting family. Isaac Coe was born about 1765 in Edgefield County, SC, making his father about 30 when he was born. His father Edward Coe first appears on record in Edgefield County in 1755, one of the earliest settlers of the South Carolina Backcountry.
Your family orignated in East Anglia, England. You descend from the same family as does Sir Winston Churchill and US President George W. Bush (both descended from Robert Coe (1596-1689) of East Anglia and Long Island, NY. Consequently, your English forebears are well documented. Perhaps more intereting to many, Country Music Legend David Allan Coe is descended from this same Robert Coe.
We have many DNA samples from your family, scienticially verifying your family history. Male members of your family have identical Y-DNA as the Coes of East Anglia: http://blog.myspace.com/carlrcoe
Following is a link to a biography of Isaac Coe. This is excerpted from the award winning book, The Coe Families of Maryland and Virginia: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=carlrcoe&id=I23840
You might find The Coe Group of value: http://www.facebook.com/?sk=messages&tid=1393129922171#!/group.php?gid=22...
I hope this is helpful.

Hi all,
I have recently learned that the Coe branch of my family tree was descended from Dutch Jews who immigrated at some point prior to the Civil War, and who's surname was Kok before immigration. They settled in East Texas, by way of South Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama, as near as I can tell.
My uncle, Clifton Coe, apparently had information on this in his papers, which were lost when he passed away. If any of the following are on your family trees, I'd really appreciate it if we could touch base and compare notes:
My grandfather, Joe Ben Coe b. 1917 Texas
His father, John Riley Coe b. 1878 Texas
His father, Isaac Coe b. 1841 Alabama
His father, William (Willem?) A Coe b. 1842 Savannah, Georgia
I have census records verifying the above, but anyone prior to William A. Coe, I cannot verify, see below.
According to Ancestry.com family trees, but without supporting source files, and thus unverified, William A. Coe's father was Isaac Coe b. 1787 in Edgefield, SC, d. 1838 in Franklin Co., Alabama. There is detail, but no sources for this information. The tree also says that Isaac was married to Rebecca Champion, but records have her married to James Buckalew in Pike Co, Alabama, in 1832, not Isaac.
While I can't find any source information on Isaac, I also cannot find any source information on Isaac's father, and am wondering if that, if Isaac is indeed William A. Coe's father, if Isaac's father is the generation in which immigration to the US occurred. A few trees list an Edward as Isaac's father, but this Edward is said to be born in 1735, which would have made him 52 when Isaac was born. I suppose this is possible, but I think it more likely there was another generation in there, and there is definitely no source record.
Anyone with information on this is most welcome to contact me.
Warm regards,
~Shoshana

Jonas Coe second daughter, Emma Eliza Coe, was born in 1850 and named Princess Tui Malietoa Coe when she was 2. Princess Tui later was famous and the founder of modern Papua and then known as Queen Emma.
Please refer to R.W.Robson's book Queen Emma. Also please see our Samoa History page a place in Samoan history http://www.princesstui.ws/html/history.html
She was born in 1850 and soon afterwards the Malietoa family, in solemn ceremony, named her Princess Tui Malietoa Coe, of the royal line. This gave her title to certain lands, and to status and privileges to which she clung all her life." "EMMA ELIZA COE, born in Samoa in 1850, inherited the warm blood of her highborn Polynesian mother and the Yankee shrewdness of her American father, Jonas M. Coe. In her early life and loves, her Polynesian traits prevailed; but in her mature years, when she became Queen Emma of New Guinea, Coe qualities generally shaped her extraordinary career."

Thank you so much for writing-I am the great-great granddaughter of Jacob! my grandfather- Chantson Coe lived to be over 100 and had a wonderful memory of who was who- I tried to write it all down several times but as you know sometimes everything they remember is incorrect or was told to them incorrectly. Chanston told me that when he was very young, 5-6 he went with his father to Astoria and delivered beer in buckets to the fishermen from his families bar/restaurant? I have a photo of him- taken when he was around 5 on a houseboat with his father and all the brothers (Jacob Coe's sons)- My grandfather showed me a house- on the way to Astoria- maybe a few miles before Astoria that he said his cousin Amy married a Cole and they lived there- it was on a corner facing the highway- do you know it? He also said he had heard that Cole was not nice to her? Was that true? His sister- Olidean was also with us on that trip, around 1992, and she said the same thing. Olidean lived to !
be 96 if I remember right. Olidean left all her old photos with my cousin, Gay Noel but Gay died suddenly last September and her brother has them all so I no longer have access to them. Grandfather and Olidean spoke about Charles and Eliza and we visited the cemetery in Warren that day. Have you seen the Ross home in Astoria? or read the obituary of their cat in the newspaper from the late 1800's? I also have an old photo of Benjamin and his brother behind a restaurant counter in St. Helen's taken in the early 1900's. My dad lives with me and remembers them both well. He also remembers attending a funeral with his grandfather, Benjamin- when he was around 5- 1935- they took the steamboat to Astoria and he says the house was large, on a corner with the door built into the corner of the house facing the street. He said the deceased was lying in the parlor but he has no idea who it was- do you? Do you know that house in Astoria and who lived there? Where do you live now? Here!
is my personal e-mail: kimcoe(a)Q.com- you can send me your phone and a
ddress- I can scan the photos and send them to you. Do you also have some old photos? I would love to show them to my father- he is now 80. thank you-
