Anne,
We have made you an honorary Coe, and are honored to do so. Your gg grandfather chose us as a family so you are stuck with us regardless of DNA results.
If you would be so kind as to supply an email address, I will send you a family group sheet with photos. I am at ccoe2(a)columbus.rr.com.
Thank You,

So, If Luther is not a Coe, then neither am I. Darn, I was looking forward to being family friends with Billy the Kid.
Do we know why that it appears the Julia abandoned Luther? I know that we are missing the 1890 census, so a lot could have happened in the 20 missing years.

Anne,
It is 100% certain that Luther Edward Coe's father was a Hensley. It is impossible to know why he chose the surname that he did. The Coes of Schuyler County were notable because of their association with Billy the Kid. Half of the time, however, he went by Cole. Please follow the Coe DNA Project blog for details (results will be included in the next post): http://blog.myspace.com/carlrcoe

Are you saying at the end of that page the Luther is most likely a Hensley? That Julia and one of the Hensley boys are the parents and not a Coe or Cole?

Message Board Post:
I have been searching till I am almost blind and I think my head is on the verge of exploding. I am talking about my search for the parentage of Luther Edward Crapson/Coe/Cole. He uses these last names almost interchangably.
At age 7 he was on another families census as a Crapson and as a servent. In the following years, Julia (his alleged mother, no proof there eithe) and Luther do not meet up on the Census or any other documents I can find. Although her brothe is listed as next of kin on Luther's draft card. Julia was 27 at the thime of Luther's birth and does not show up on any further census as Crapson/Coe/Cole, nor can I find any death date. Luther uses Crapson/Coe/Cole throught his life. So far my conclusions:
1. Julia was not married to Luther's father.
2. Luther was dumped off with another family because of his suspicious birth to avoid shaming the Crapson name, possible bastard child.
3. Luther was not told who his father was but only that it was a Cole or Coe or he was tired of being teased about being the son of crap.
4. Julia (if actual mother) died shortly after Luther's birth, because if she had married or moved to a convent she would have shown up on later census, or someone else's family tree.
If you have any ideas, preferably with sources, I would welcome the help.

Hi, all,,
I am hoping to find living descendents of Cornelia Coe (1886-1975), widow of Edward H. Coe. Place of death according to the SSDI was Bergen, NJ. If I have the right Cornelia Coe, she was the daughter of Edward B. Green, an architect in Buffalo, NY.

Hi Dave,
I was happy to find your post. Following is a link to your family history. If you click the father at each page, it will take you back to the mid-1500s?: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=carlrcoe&id=I58479
To help fill in the gaps, could I get information on your father Horace and your family?
We desperately need a DNA sample from your family. Would you have interest in participating? It's very easy, a simple cheek swab: http://blog.myspace.com/carlrcoe

Unfortunately we haven't been able to add any more for Ann other than the 'possibility' her parents were Thomas and Susanna Coe. The same goes for her husband Henry Gatward, we cannot find him or his family prior to his and Anns marriage, he is believed to have been born Gt.Yeldham abt 1770.
If you are able to shed any light on them it would be most appreciated.

Rootsweb mailing lists are automatic and are
managed by list robots. These robots take care
of subscription requests and bouncing
(rejected) emails.
The most frequently asked question of
subscribers is:
*****************
"Why have I been unsubscribed?"
Answer:
If your list mail cannot be delivered for any
reason, the list robot unsubscribes you after
a certain number of failed attempts.
(For the COE list the maximum
member bounce score is: 3)
This can happen for a number of reasons - some
of the more common reasons are that your
mailbox is full, your spam filter is blocking
the list mail, your ISP is blocking list mail
from Rootsweb, you have put an automatic
responder on your email....
If you were unsubscribed and did not wish to
be taken off the mailing list, simply subscribe
again. However be forewarned that if whatever
caused the list robot to unsubscribe you the
first time is still happening, it will simply
remove you again after a specific number of
bounces--3--(rejected list mail to your email
address).
But as a courtesy to all COE
listers, I can re-subscribe you manually. Just
let me know.
******************
Other questions asked are:
"How do I unsubscribe?"
Answer:
Simply follow the instructions at the bottom
of every list mail message.
******************
"Why is my mail not getting to the mailing
list?"
Answer:
Make sure that you are sending from the same
email you are subscribed under. The list robot
does not recognize names. It only recognizes
email addresses. If your sending email address
is not on the subscriber list, your email will
be rejected.
******************
"Why am I not getting list mail?"
Answer:
Check the HelpDesk notices in the yellow box
for announcements about any technical problems
with Rootsweb mail.
http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/
If you don't find the answer to your problem on
the HelpDesk page you need to check if you are
still subscribed to the list. You can get a
list of all your subscribed to mailing lists
from Password Central:
http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/
If Password Central doesn't include all lists
to which you should be subscribed, re-subscribe
to any lists that are missing from your
subscribed lists by sending a new e-mail to:
LISTNAME-request(a)rootsweb.com (replacing the
word LISTNAME with the actual list name).
Put only the word SUBSCRIBE in the subject and
message body of your e-mail.

Should anyone need further elaboration then you
may give me--Yours Truly--a contact.

Hello Listers:

To subscribe/unsubscribe:

To subscribe in Digest mode:
COE-D-request(a)rootsweb.com.
To send a message/post to the List:

>>>>>> FYI Only <<<<<<
Mode = manner/method/way.
There are two modes in which to subscribe:
1. The -L mode. The "regular" mode now. All regular
subscribers receive posts/messages made to
the list as separate/individual emails.
2. The -D mode. The "digest" mode now. All digest
subscribers receive posts/messages made to
the list as one BIG email.
....
If you previously subscribed to the list in both
-L and -D modes using the same email address you
will find that you are *no longer* subscribed in
Digest mode.
The new software doesn't permit the same address
to be subscribed in both -L and -D modes.
Therefore, if you wish to receive both modes, you
will need to subscribe to the Digest using a different
email address.
Please give me a contact should anyone need further
elaboration - grin.
