Hi Nina
Thank you for that. All the Coe's except for Great Grandfather Joseph seem to have been farm workers. Joseph seems to have found it hard to stick to a job for long. He was, just about in order a barman, a grocer, a labourer (of various sorts), a lamplighter and a window cleaner. Since he died of pneumonia, agaed about 44, I think that latter was cause and effect.
Look forward to hearing from you, it is a bright and sunny morning here, 10.15 a.m. on Tuesday 17 February.
Regards
Glenda

Glad to hear you're on the trail.I shall send the tree as an attachment when I have it looking as if it is ledgeable. The Coe's from this area seem to have been there since the late 1700's and there seems to be some evidence of them dropping down from Suffolk. They were mostly agricultural workers and seemed to have a long association with Manor Farm and Nightingale's nest which were a
small group of cottages near by. My Grandfather was a schoolteacher and local artist and I used to sit and listen to his tales of the area.
speak soon

Hi Nina
Thank you for your message. This is the first useful one I have had. I knew about Job living with the Finch family. He later moved to another family. I guessed he must have been farmed about and I am in the process of applying for his birth certificate. He was born in 1838 so it does exist. I am happy to add a new relation, no matter how distant. I imagine you have this information but I will repeat it. Job married Johanna Donovan of Cork, Ireland in 1859. Their children were Joseph (my great grandfather) born 1860 died 1905, George born 1863, William Bernard born 1864, Mary A and Ellen S born 1868, Catherine born 1870, Frederick born 1873 Died 1926, and Agnes Anne born 1879. Some of these dates are aproximate.
Joseph married Pomona Sims, their children were Joseph Robert born 1885, Lilian May born 1886(my grandmother), William Albert born 1885, Daisy Ellen born 1888 and Arthur who was aa twin born and died 1891 aged 6 days (the other twin was still born). Joseph married Emmy and had one daughter Grace. My grandmother married Alfred Henry Walden and had Lilian Emma (my mother), Daisy who married George Duncalf and Alfred who married Irene Hornsby. My mother married James West and had me (Glenda Lilian), Daisy had John and Julian and Alfred had Andrew, Gerrard and Howard and adopted a daughter Gillian. William Albert married Polly and went to Canada, they never had any children. Daisy Ellen never married. Grace, to my knowledge never married and neither have I.
George (Job's son) married Frances and had Eric George born 1886 and Frank born 1888. William Barnard married Eliza and had Edith Kate born 1888, Alice Mabel born 1889 died 1897, Bernard William born 1890, George E. born 1891 died 1896, Percy born 1900, Ivy Eliza born 1903 and Frank Herbert born 1910. I did wonder if the latter was really William and Eliza's children considering her age, but that is what they told the 1911 census.
If you have any more I would love to hear. It takes time to get replied from England to me if I sent for the certificates. I can't order online and my computer soft wear is not compatible with BMD.
Regards
Glenda in New Zealand.

Hi
I think though this has to be backed up by going through Parish records that Job could be part of our tree. I've only just linked in with the Ockenden Coe's but what I've found is they are all related to one another.
I think that COE, Abraham born 1771 aged 70 M Orsett and Mary Coe aged 70 have Abraham Coe aged 15 living with them in the Census 1841.Emma Coe is to be found at Manor Farm aged 12yrs and Job is living in Hornchurch aged 2 with the Finch's It could be that Elizabeth Finch is an aunt and that Abraham and Mary are his grandparents. It would need lots of groundwork with death and marriage records but I think that they must have been orphaned and farmed out.
I am related in that I think that Abraham and Mary are the parents of William Coe who lived at Nightingale's nest in Ockenden and he and his wife Susannah are my great, great, great, great grandparents. Does this help?
If you want more you're welcome. Kind regards
Nina

Cathy,
Glad to help. You come from a very old and illustrious family. Your ancestor Matthew Coe, who appears in Portsmouth, ME, in 1640 was one of the first Coes to immigrate to America. His son John Coe, also your ancestor, married Sarah Pabodie, daughter of Elizabeth Alden, the first white child born in New England and heroine of Longfellow's "The Courtship of Miles Standish."
Please click on the following link for a complete history of your family. At each page you can click on individuals for more information. If you click on your grandfather, then his father, etc., it will take you back eleven generations to Matthew Coe: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=carlrcoe&id=I31349
You might also like to check the Coe Hall of Fame. Two of your relatives are listed there: George Simmons Coe, father of the American Banking System, and Charles Francis Coe, famous author and celebrity de jour of the 1930s: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=562709570#/photo_search.php?oid=22...
I also have a request. If you are in contact with male Coes from your family, we desperately need a DNA sample. We have only one Matthew Coe sample in the entire worldwide Coe DNA Project: http://blog.myspace.com/carlrcoe
I hope this is helpful.
Thank You,
Carl Robert Coe

Hi Robert,
I found this quite by accident. I am a Coe from NY but have no clue of much ancestory. My Grandfather was Donald Charles Coe from Norwich NY. - Born Nov 18 1911 Death April 1982. He was married to Catherine Laura Cole Died in 1976. Most of my immediate relatives have deceased including my father Ronald Carl Coe Born 10/03/41 Dies 2/28/96, so i don't really have anyone to ask who knows anything. I think he had 8 brothers and sisters one was named Sedge, His mothers name was Bertha. Sorry not much to go on anything you may have I'd love to know about.
Thank you.
Cathy

Rootsweb mailing lists are automatic and are
managed by list robots. These robots take care
of subscription requests and bouncing
(rejected) emails.
The most frequently asked question of
subscribers is:
*****************
"Why have I been unsubscribed?"
Answer:
If your list mail cannot be delivered for any
reason, the list robot unsubscribes you after
a certain number of failed attempts.
(For the COE list the maximum
member bounce score is: 3)
This can happen for a number of reasons - some
of the more common reasons are that your
mailbox is full, your spam filter is blocking
the list mail, your ISP is blocking list mail
from Rootsweb, you have put an automatic
responder on your email....
If you were unsubscribed and did not wish to
be taken off the mailing list, simply subscribe
again. However be forewarned that if whatever
caused the list robot to unsubscribe you the
first time is still happening, it will simply
remove you again after a specific number of
bounces--3--(rejected list mail to your email
address).
But as a courtesy to all COE
listers, I can re-subscribe you manually. Just
let me know.
******************
Other questions asked are:
"How do I unsubscribe?"
Answer:
Simply follow the instructions at the bottom
of every list mail message.
******************
"Why is my mail not getting to the mailing
list?"
Answer:
Make sure that you are sending from the same
email you are subscribed under. The list robot
does not recognize names. It only recognizes
email addresses. If your sending email address
is not on the subscriber list, your email will
be rejected.
******************
"Why am I not getting list mail?"
Answer:
Check the HelpDesk notices in the yellow box
for announcements about any technical problems
with Rootsweb mail.
http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/
If you don't find the answer to your problem on
the HelpDesk page you need to check if you are
still subscribed to the list. You can get a
list of all your subscribed to mailing lists
from Password Central:
http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/
If Password Central doesn't include all lists
to which you should be subscribed, re-subscribe
to any lists that are missing from your
subscribed lists by sending a new e-mail to:
LISTNAME-request(a)rootsweb.com (replacing the
word LISTNAME with the actual list name).
Put only the word SUBSCRIBE in the subject and
message body of your e-mail.
******************
Should anyone need further elaboration then you
may give me--Yours Truly--a contact.

Hello Listers:

To subscribe/unsubscribe:
COE-request(a)rootsweb.com.
To subscribe in Digest mode:
COE-D-request(a)rootsweb.com.
To send a message/post to the List:

>>>>>> FYI Only <<<<<<
Mode = manner/method/way.
There are two modes in which to subscribe:
1. The -L mode. The "regular" mode now. All regular
subscribers receive posts/messages made to
the list as separate/individual emails.
2. The -D mode. The "digest" mode now. All digest
subscribers receive posts/messages made to
the list as one BIG email.
....
If you previously subscribed to the list in both
-L and -D modes using the same email address you
will find that you are *no longer* subscribed in
Digest mode.
The new software doesn't permit the same address
to be subscribed in both -L and -D modes.
Therefore, if you wish to receive both modes, you
will need to subscribe to the Digest using a different
email address.
Please give me a contact should anyone need further
elaboration - grin.
