Seeking ancestry/descendants of John Richard Coe b about 1894 in Rawlpindi, India. His father was in the Bedfordshire Rgt and John later became an officer in the same regiment. The last info I have is that he was an acting major in WWI in the 2nd Bedfordshire, rgt #6597.
Would like to contact anyone working on this line.
Thank you,
Linda

Sorry it took so long to respond. I haven't been on this board in a while. I'm on duty now, but when I get home I'll see what I have. If my memory is correct, the Roesner's were around the Woodburn area (NE of Fort Wayne about 6 mi.). I haven't been able to find out her dad's name yet, I thought it might be Christian, but cannot prove it. Keep in touch. Email me at Toddprindle9(a)yahoo.com for faster responses.

Hi Andrew, and anyone else who may have been trying to contact me.
My apologies to anyone unable to get through. After a decade of using the same email address I get a huge number of damnable spam daily, and, mark virtually all of them for deletion and address bouncing before I download. If I don't recognize a name, or find something familiar in the Subject line, it's apt to be marked for deletion.
I would indeed like to get in touch with you regarding COEs in Wickhambrook - and throughout Ely, Prickwillow areas as well.
Thanks for your persistence Andrew. Robert W. (Bob) Coe, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. (780) 463-7048.

Benjamin Coe m to Rachel Prudden was the son of Joseph Coe and Judith (believed to be a Wheeler). Joseph's father was another Benjamin married to a Abigail Carman.
A good listing of the Coes are available at this site under listings by Richard Freeman. A Carman also hosts a site that can give information on that branch.

Gloria,
I was delighted to find your request for information on Drury Coe and his daughter Sarah F. (Coe) Smoot. I have posted below material from pages 1082-1083 from the book "The Coe Families of Maryland and Virginia" (Columbus, OH: 2002). Two-volume sets of the award winning book are stocked at some major libraries and are still available for purchase.
I hope this is helpful.

10. DRURY W.3 COE (Isaac2 (2), Edward1) was born in 1823 in Lawrence County, MS. He appears in Crawford County, GA, in 1850 and Upson County, GA, in 1860. In 1860 he had a small Upson County farm on which he planted tobacco and sweet potatoes. He owned one horse.
Five feet, five and three quarters inches tall, with blue eyes, a florid complexion and dark hair, he lived at Griffin, GA, in the early 1860s. On July 1, 1862, he enlisted at Thomaston, GA, county seat of Upson County, to serve with Company G, 2nd Kentucky Cavalry, ``Morgan's Raiders,'' Confederate Army. Company G joined General Morgan at Chattanooga, TN, shortly after being recruited and saw their first action at Gallatin, TN, on August 12. In detached service at the hospital in Knoxville for most of 1862, Drury was admitted to St. Mary's Hospital, Dalton, GA, June 27, 1863, for debilitas. On March 12, 1864, while staying at the fair grounds hospital in Atlanta, he was issued a coat, shirt, pants, hat, and underwear "for the comfort of the soldier."
Captured by General Harvey's men at Morganfield, KY, August 18, 1864, he was sent to Evansville, IN, as a prisoner of war. Received at Military Command Headquarters, Indianapolis, August 24, he was held at Camp Morton until May 20, 1865, when he took the oath of allegiance and was released.
He and his wife parted ways after the Civil War. She and their daughter Mary appear with her parents in Pike County, GA, in 1870. That year Drury was living in Crenshaw County, AL, with his daughter Emma, Mrs. Jane (Bedgood) Vann, her children, and Drury and Jane's son Lawson, age two. He rented a farm at Rutledge, a small town just outside the county seat of Luverne. Living just two houses away was the family of his brother William A. Coe and his wife Permelia Hastings, listed elsewhere in this chapter. In January 1871 Drury filed for divorce from his wife Sarah in Butler County, AL, and mortgaged a five-year-old bay mare and his crop of corn and cotton to pay his attorney fees: "The condition of the above is such that whereas I am indebted to Herbert & Buell in the Sum of fifty dollars due Oct. 1, 1871 and am indebted to Said [William] Seawell and the officers of the Court for Costs to be insured in a Certain Suit in Chancery . . . of!
Drury Coe vs Sarah Coe."
He married (1) August 29, 1850, in Crawford County, GA, Mary Langley, born 1835 in Georgia, died from childbirth in February 1860 in Upson County, GA; (2) February 20, 1860, in Upson County, GA, Sarah Frances Langley, born 1840 in Georgia, daughter of Isaac and Sophia Langley of Pike County, GA. She may be the Sarah Coe who married April 1, 1869, in Henry County, GA, John Clark. Drury married (3) Mrs. Jane (Bedgood) Vann, born March 1823 in Georgia, widow of Calvin Vann; (4) March 28, 1872, in Santa Rosa County, FL, Jane Ryals; (5) December 14, 1875, in Santa Rosa County, FL, Mary Jane Thomas; (6) December 6, 1877, in Escambia County, FL, Elizabeth Laurey. Jane (Bedgood) Vann Coe was married (1) April 10, 1845, in Butler County, AL, to Calvin Vann. In 1860 she and her first husband lived just five houses from William A. and Permelia (Hastings) Coe in Butler County. Jane Coe lived with her son William J. Vann in Cren!
shaw County, AL, in 1900.
