Frances,
Delighted to hear from you. You are obviously aware David Hudspeth Coe was a son of the notable James and Martha (Hudspeth) Coe of Surry County, NC, Hardin County, KY, and St. Landry Parish, LA. David's gg grandson bodybuilder Boyer Coe consistently defeated Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1970s and 80s. Mr. Olympia, Mr. Universe, and known as "The World's Best Built Man," he is the only person to ever receive a perfect score at the World Body Building Championships. Retired from body building, he currently supplies exercise equipment to the US government from his Crystal City, CA, headquarters.
Below is a biography of David Hudspeth Coe from page 152 of the book "The Coe Families of Maryland and Virginia" Columbus, OH, 2002). The book won the Maryland Historical Society Parker Prize for the best published work on Maryland family history.
43. DAVID HUDSPETH6 COE (James5 (24), Timothy4, Timothy3, Timothy2, Timothy1) was born September 2, 1812, in Hardin County, KY, on a farm now part of Fort Knox. As a baby he was taken by his parents to St. Landry Parish, LA. When his father died there in 1831, Green Hudspeth was appointed by the court to be his tutor. Reared in Hudspeth’s home, on April 28, 1840, he and his sister Missouri Ardry appeared before parish judge George King and signed a document declaring that they had received their share ($609.29 each) of their father’s estate from George Hudspeth, "agent of the Said Estate."
On May 10, 1844, he sold a tract of eighty acres located at Grand Prairie, St. Landry Parish, to John O’Connor for $150. He appears on record in the parish March 28, 1849, when he made a deposition at Opelousas, stating that he had received $96.87 from Samuel M. Hudspeth, administrator of the estate of George Hudspeth, deceased; the amount due him from the estates of his father and his deceased brother Ulysses. On May 12, 1849, he petitioned the court of St. Landry Parish to be named "Natural Tutor" of his three minor children, whose mother had died. The petition was granted. His brother James T. Coe was approved as secondary tutor.
He remained in St. Landry Parish until about 1850, when he moved to Rapides Parish, where he appears in the 1850 census. In 1860 he was living at Alexandria, LA. On October 1, 1860, he patented an 80-acre farm in Section 34, Township 1N, Range 3W, Rapides Parish. He appears on the 1865 tax list of Calcasieu Parish. In 1870 he was living in Catahoula Parish. A blacksmith, he first learned the trade at the age of sixteen, apprenticed to Alexander Duggins, January 28, 1829.
He married (1) September 11, 1834, in St. Landry Parish, LA, Charlotte O’Conner, who died there in 1849. He married (2) Clarissa, born 1832 in Louisiana. Sons George and James in her name received a 161-acre farm in Section 29, Township 1S, Range 6W, on the Allen/Jefferson Davis Parish line, March 23, 1897. He married (3) October 3, 1869, in Catahoula Parish, LA, Mrs. Mary Ellen (Eskew) Whatley, born 1847 in Louisiana, daughter of Mrs. M.C. Eskew.

I am seeking information on a John Coe, b 1893 in India (probably Rawalpindi). Family legend has it that he was b to Charles and Mary(Williams) Munday who served in the Beds/Herts regiment and was given to a senior officer the night of his birth. He later became a colonel in the same regiment as his father and his natural father.
John later met with his natural parents.
Any idea how I can find out if there was an officer by this name? He would be a brother to my grandfather, William Munday, who came to the US as a young man.
Would anyone have a John Coe in their ancestry of the age of this man?
Thank you for any help you can give.

Hi there Carl, my name is Elizabeth Coe and I am just starting to research my Father's family as I know nothing about it apart from them coming from England. I myself and parents came out to Australia in 1954 but my parents rarely talked about their family.
I would love to see the photos and anything further that you have.
Thanking you in anticipation.
Elizabeth
