Can you tell me the name of the Coe you are looking for. I did this for a
friend. The Coe family is very interesting. I traced their family back to
Pricilla and John Alden.

Steven,
I have posted below a biography of Jacob Coe and his family from pages 728-729 of the book "The Coe Families of Maryland and Virginia" (Columbus, OH: 2002). Please note that Jacob is not found on record as Jacob Thomas Coe; only Jacob. His son William named a son Jacob Thomas Coe, who served from North Carolina in the Civil War, and people on the internet have unfortunately confused the two individuals.
Two-volume sets of the above award winning book are still available for purchase and is stocked by some major libraries.
Do you have information on the children of Sarah Coe and William Saunders? As you can see from the biography below, when the book went to press nothing was known of her family.
There was no relationship between Jemima (Coe) Savage and Jemima (Terrell) Coe.
I trust that the information below is somehow helpful. I would be delighted to hear back from you.
Thank You,
Carl Robert Coe

JACOB2 COE (Francis Peter1) was born about 1770, probably in Loudoun County, VA. First appearing on the tithe list of Loudoun County in 1789, he went with his family to Pittsylvania County, VA, about 1790, and may have lived for a while in Halifax County. He appears to be the Jacob Coe who appears on record in Botetourt County, July 13, 1790, when he was appointed "Surveyor of the Road." He appears on record in Pittsylvania County, February 4, 1794, when he received payment from John Pannill for driving two trips to Petersburg and for three days hindrance. On April 14, 1794, he received payment from Pannill for making another trip to Petersburg and for shop work. He appears in the records of the Pittsylvania County court, August 16, 1806, when James Linn and William Wembush filed a complaint against him.
Employed as a waggoner at the rate of $10 per month, he died in Pittsylvania County in 1812. John Douglas was appointed administrator of his estate, February 17, 1812. An inventory of the estate, which included a bay mare and colt, a cow and calf, a saddle and bridle, a hoe, a beehive, two cotton wheels, a flax wheel, a pine table, a barrel of corn, a pewter basin, and other items, was taken February 24, 1812. Appraisers were William Smith, William H. Stone and Nathan Glenn. Purchasers at the estate sale, held March 7, 1812, were Jemima Coe, John Douglas, Leonard Davis, William Dunning, John Ballinger (son of William and Martha Ballinger of Prince George's County, MD, and Fairfax County, VA), Robert Waller, Littleberry Lewis, John Gregory, William Sanders, William Smith, Samuel Stone, and others. The total raised from the sale was £36.16.2. With £2.6.43/4 paid the estate by Samuel Pannille, 15 shillings, 9 pence rai!
sed from the sale of tobacco, £2.8.0 paid the estate for wages due, and £1.4.0 owed the estate by Daniel Lounden, total value was £43.10.33/4. Distribution included £1.12.0 paid to John Glenn for a note, 15 shillings paid George Towns, £34.10.0 paid St. Clements, and £6 paid to John Douglas for trouble as administrator, leaving the estate a balance of 13 shillings, 33/4 pence. Final settlement was made June 20, 1814. Witnesses were Samuel Stone, William Smith, Joseph E. Hailey, and N. Tucker.
He married December 22, 1796, in Halifax County, VA, Jemima Terrell, with Richard Terrell as surety. Jemima Coe appears on record in Pittsylvania County, VA, on October 8, 1818, when she gave consent for her daughter Sarah to marry. She likewise gave her consent for daughters Nancy and Lucy to marry in 1827 and 1830, respectively, although she made a note on Lucy's marriage consent that she was under age. She is listed in the 1820 census of Pittsylvania County as a female over 45 years of age, with a male 10~15, a female 0~10 - obviously Lucy - and two females 16~26 in her home.

Cavalier John Coo was born about 1340 in Essex, England; during the reign of King Edward III.His occupation is listed as soldier, knight and landowner. In early manhood he joined ''The White Company" of Sir John Hawkwood,a band of mercenary soldiers who gained fame, fortune and power fighting in Italy, whose sponsors were mainly the popes and the city-state of Florence. He became one of Sir John's chief lieutenants, having won knighthood in the bloody battle of San Gallo in 1364, and during the next 20 years his exploits were perserved by Italian historians among which are letters to him from Pope Gregory XI. The armorial bearing of John Coo are "three pales wavy charged with twelve martlets". His seal is " a holy lamb with a banner ", probably derived from the seal of the Knights Templar, which order was suppressed by the Pope about 1315, before the time of its use by John Coo in 1403.For more info on his life refer to WWW.staleyhistory.com/biography or Robert Coe,Puritan.
