My family linage is Cochran from England to the Idaho-Oregon areas. In a recent field trip digging for roots in the Idaho outback an old timer in the area told me some of the Cochrans there pronounced their name COE-grun...accent on the Coe. One of my fellow Cochran researchers suggested some of our kin may have shortened the surname to Coe. Have any of you encountered this Coe-Coegrun-Cochran thread in surnames? If so please contact Lee Helser at Sylkie777(a)aol.com. Thanks

Ruth, I have the obits from the Observer for George and Lydia Snyder, but don't have any for William or Austin. I do have a death certificate for Austin. I forget why I ordered it, but it didn't give me the information I was looking for.
The Mrs. M.A. Robinson in Lydia Coe Snyder's obit, is the same person as Mary Gray in George's. She was living with her son Charles Gray at 353 So. Cherry St. in Galesburg, Ill in 1900 census, also 1910. Nancy visited her there in 1925 along with another sister. I was doing that census research in 1983, so 1920 and 30 weren't available at that time. I don't know what her husband's name was, suspect the M.A. stands for Mary A. That mystery might be solved by checking earlier censuses.
My grandmother, Lydia Margaretta Wright Foltz and my mother Enid Foltz Stoltenberg, both told me stories about Grandma Snyder. She was an interesting person.

I believe the Stitt name comes from Nancy Stitt Robinson who married Andrew Robinson. There are two biographies of her sons in "Warren County Illinois Portrait and Biographical Album" Chicago: Chapman brothers 1886.
"Miss Nancy Stitt, a native of Pennsylvania, who was reared in Kentucky, and of Irish parentage. She came to Ohio when a young woman. In that State three children were born to them: Isabella, Mary and Robert G. the latter being the only survivor. They afterward settled in Warren Co., Ind., and while residing there three more children were added to their vamily: John, Martha and William, the latter now deceased.
"In the year 1829, the family came to Illinois, and settled in Warren County, while it was unsettled, and there the father secured a tract of land. His demise occurred in Cold Brook Township, where the son, our subject, now resides. The mother died at the same place in 18745."
The above quote comes from the biography of the youngest son, Milton C. Robinson pp. 538-539.
The other biography is of older brother John S. and is longer and more detailed. Nancy Stitt, sometimes spelled Stidt was born May 12, 1794. She and Andrew were parents of 9 children: "Isabella and Mary, the two older are now deceased; Garrett lives in Kelly Township; John S. is the next in order of birth; William F. is not living; Martha J. married Mr. C. Hanna, and they reside in Spring Grove township; Margaret A. is married to James Jardner, of Cold Brook Township: Nancy E. is also deceased; Columbus is a farmer in the township now named, and resides on the old homestead. The mother has been deceased some years. Her demise took place in March, 1876."
Snyders lived in Spring Grove Township--Kelly borders it on the east, Monmouth on the south and Coldbrook is adjacent, just south of Kelly and east of Monmouth.
I wondered about that Stitt name for years before I ran across these biographies. Still the reason Nancy was named after this lady isn't real clear. I suspect they lived nearby and worked together.

Jo, can you post your source for Ariel Coe's marriage to Lydia Crosby?
I posted several messages on the Coe and Snyder family. We share common descendency from George Snyder and Lydia Coe. Do you know the source of Nancy Stitt Snyder's middle name? I'm wondering if this is a surname of parent of George or Lydia.

I am also curious to know just what the relationship was. Am still trying to find out more about the elder Ariel's family. The census' all list several children living with him. Ariel Brunson Coe is my greatgrandfather.

Here's my connection to the Snyder and Robinson family and the Coe family. I will start with my Great Grandparents.
Elmer Ray, born Warren Co IL married Nellie Gertrude Snyder.
Nellie is d/o Harry Snyder and Anna Launder.
Harry is s/o Austin J, Snyder and Caroline Brown. They were married in Warren Co, IL in 1853.
Austin J Snyder, born in Warren Co, PA, lived in Warren Co, IL and died in Adair Co, IA, is s/o George Snyder and Lydia Coe. Goerge's parentage is unknown.
Lydia is d/o Ariel Coe, born 1772. I only recently learned her mother was Lydia Crosby and have no information about their marriage.
Anna Launder, w/o Harry Snyder, is daughter of Henry Launder, born Muskingum Co, OH and Susan Reid (Reed) Robinson, born Washington Co, OH. They lived in Washington Co, OH and possibly Hamilton Co. OH before moving to Adair Co. IA to manage land owned by President of a college in OHIO.
Susan Robinson is d/o Ebenezer Robinson, born Painfield, CT and Hester White, born in Westchester Co., NY.
How these Robinson's are related to those in Warren Co, IL puzzles me. Since they lived fairly close together in IL and the Surnames connect, I suspect there is a connection.
There is another Robinson family in Adair Co, IA that I'm connected to through this family. My grandmother, d/o Elmer Ray and Nellie Snyder, brother's wife is a Robinson. So far, I have found no connection between these families.

Ariel Coe, born 1772, CT, is son of Robert Coe and Chole Thrall. He descends from Robert Coe, the Puritan. There is a book about Roberet Coe, the Puritan have covers the genealogy of this family. However, it ends with chlidren of Robert and Chole.
I found tracking Ariel Coe in census quite difficult. His first name is uncommon and the census takers were quite creative with spelling. I searched through Ancestry.com to find this information.
I believe the following in our Ariel Coe, born 1772, CT.
1800 Rial Coe Otsego Co, Otsego. P 18.
1 M -10
1 M 26-45
2 F -10
1 F 26 -45
1810 Ariel Coe Delaware Co, NY P 467.
1820 Arial Coe Delaware Co, Masonville Twp, NY. P 79.
1830 Arsel Coe Warren Co, Conewango Twp, PA. P 7.
1840 Have not found. Would be age 68. I believe he was living with one of his children.
1850 Ariel Coe with George Snyder in Warren Co IL.
