Florence,
Please forgive my delay in responding to your request. There has been a glitch in the website database. I received the information just today.
I was delighted to read the story of the Coe papers. Your grandmother received those pages from John Edwin Coe, 2025 Sunnyside Avenue, Chicago, IL. He died April 21, 1961, in Chicago. After his death, his research papers were stored in the basement of his son Kenneth Coe’s home in Skokie, IL, until 1983 when they were obtained by your correspondent.
Just last year a book titled “The Coe Families of Maryland and Virginia” was published on your family. For more information on the book, please see http://peggysue5.homestead.com/Coe.html

Thank you. Last month I went to Hillside City Cemetary in Redlands, CA and found Calvary's headstone, listed as:
Calvary Williamson Coe
1860-1933
Rest in Peace
I also spoke with one of his grandchildren (my aunt), and she was born "1933", same year Cale died. The family has always known Calvary as "Cale". So, Calvary was a surprise to us. So, with this new information you can correctly update your records.
Thanks for your hard work.

Hi Colleen,
Thank you for the kind reply. Calvary Williamson Coe appears in records as Calvary Coe, Calvin Coe, Cale Coe, Calvin M. Coe, etc. I think the "M" was probably a misread of "W." There were no other Calvary Coes. I've worked on the family deligently since 1979 and I've not run across another individual named Cale Coe or Calvary Coe. Your ancestor was indeed a son of Abraham Sinkey Coe and a twin brother of Clara M. Coe. It is noted in the family history that Clara M. Coe's twin brother "Calvin" moved to Redlands, San Bernardino County. CA. The family history also notes that "Calvin Coe married Eva Crary" (RCP, p.324). Cale Coe appears in the 1910 and 1920 censuses of San Bernardino County, CA. Both years he appears with his wife Eva Crary. In 1910 he also appears with sons Carlos and Day Coe (75, ED 79:107). You will find a complete history of your family in the book "Robert Coe, Puritan, His Ancestors and Descendants, 1340 -1910."
I hope this is helpful.

I really appreciate the information you sent. Not to question your hard work, but it appears that Douglas Henry has posted a Clavin M. Coe, twin to Clara M. Coe.
So, I wonder if there is indeed a relationship here. Now, I did note that Sophronia White's brother was Calvery White, 2nd Wife Marjorie Coe.
It would seem that the middle name, Williamson would come on his mother side and I can't seem to pull up any relations.
What confirmation do you have that the Calvary Coes are the same ones.
I would appreciate your help.

William
I live in Racine, Wisconsin and my family roots are from northern Wisconsin. I am also working on our family tree. I have discovered that there are Coe's living in the Milwaukee area and Racine area (that aren't - at least I don't think so - related to me).
My great grandfather, Alfred Coe & Mary Bunyan, immigrated into Wisconsin in 1880 from Canada and settled in Outagamie County.

Colleen,
I can't tell you how delighted I was to see your request for information on Dr. Calvary Williamson "Cale" Coe. His history has been of interest to me for many years. Here is a little information on his family.
LIEUTENANT ABRAHAM SINKEY COE (Elder John Kerr7, Elder Silas6 (161), Lieut. Ebenezer5, Benjamin4, Joseph3, Benjamin2, Robert1) was born April 7, 1825, in Martinsburg, 0H. He was a carpenter and wheelwright and resided in Hebbardsville and in Harrisonville, 0H, dying at the latter place July 29, 1894. He was a Union soldier in the Civil War, serving as a First Lieutenant in the 36th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and for several years held the offices of justice of the peace and trustee of the Methodist Episcopal church.
He married March 7, 1849, at Harrisonville, 0H, Sophronia White, born April 25, 1825, in Athens, 0H, daughter of Horatio and Isa (Foster) White. She was a woman of devout Christian character and died at Harrisonville, 0H, April 18, 1891.
Children:
1. Floretta J., b. July 23, 1850, in Harrisonville, 0H; m. Nov. 15, 1874, in Meigs Co., OH, Edwin J. Lee; lived in Harrisonville.
2. Loren P., b. Oct. 28, 1852, in Hebbardsville, OH; m. June 8, 1878, in Meigs Co., OH, Mary Estie Dunlap; lived in Tarkio, MO.
3. Ryland H., b. Feb. 1856 in Hebbardsville, OH; m. March 26, 1885, in Atchison Co., MO, Kittie Sutherland.
4. Clara M., b. Oct. 26, 1860, in Hebbardsville, OH; m. Rev. B.F. Durling; lived at Westerville, OH.
5. Dr. Calvary Williamson “Cale” (twin), b. Oct. 26, 1860, at Hebbardsville, OH; m. Nov. 15, 1885, in Meigs Co., OH, Evaline M. Crary; moved to Redlands, CA.
A complete history of this family is presented in the book "Robert Coe, Puritan, His Ancestors and Descendants, 1340-1910 (Boston, Privately Published, 1911). It might be of interest to learn that Cale Coe's great-great grandfather Ebenezer Coe served as a lieutenant in Capt. James Leach's Company, George Bird's Regiment, Pennsylvania Line, Continental Army, during the American Revolution. Possibly of more interest is Ebenezer Coe's brother Moses Coe who served as an ensign during the Revolution. He is the ancestor of US President George W. Bush. I hope this is helpful.

You may have received a reply with correct info. I have no info on Alfred Coe, I am responding because of your name Charles Williamson, and perhaps there is a connection. My g grandfather was Dr. Calvary "Cale" Williamson Coe b. 1860, Ohio married to Evaline "Eva" M. Crary b. 1866 Ohio. Moved to CA due to Cale's health.
Would there be a relation? I have no more info on the Coe's. I am assuming though that Day Coe born in NY, 1870 Illinois, Cook County Federal census is a relation, because of the fact that Cale and Eva named their kids Abraham "Day" Coe b. Ohio 1886 and Carlos Crary Coe (my grandfather) b. Illinois 1893.
The Coe lineage at this point in my search has ended I would appreciate it to know if there is a connection or if anyone has any further info.

Greetings,
I've noted your name in context to Duncan Black of Kilmartin Scotland who went out to India in 1803. Your postings would lead me to believe that you are descended from his second son Alexander. If so we should compare research. I've left other messages for you -- the e-mail addresses have probably changed.
Hi, I'm new to this list. I am looking for any information on Jonathan &
Sarah Lucinda (Murray) Coe. I received information that this family is
mentioned in "Robert Coe, Puritan, his Ancestors & Descendants 1340 - 1910 by
H. Gardner Bartlett."
Can any one tell me where this book may be, to do an interlibrary loan? Or
does anyone one have a copy, to do a look up, or scan the pages. I am more
than willing to pay for any expenses.
Thanks in advance
Kathy Gold
