Ray,
Delighted to hear from you. Are you familiar with the book "The Coe
Families of Maryland and Virginia"? The book contains a chapter on the
family of Samuel Coe of Wayne County, KY. Please see
http://peggysue5.homestead.com/Coe.html
An interesting document was recorded in Wayne County, Oct. 11, 1818, naming
Samuel Coe's mother and siblings. It helped unravel the mystery of his
family.
I would be delighted to hear back from you. Are you related to this family?

Thanks for your quick response. While I do not know when John Coe and Sarah Major married, or where, I do know that John's age in 1830 corresponds with Milburn's son John's birthdate of 1787. From census records I know John was living in Byrd Twp. in 1820, then Huntington Twp. in 1830. From there he moved to Lewis Twp in 1840 and to Pleasant Twp. in 1850. After that, I sort of lost track of him and Sarah.
I know more about Jacob Leslie and Sarah Coe. They were married in Brown County, Ohio on May 21, 1839, and together had 8 children. Their oldest child, Levina Leslie, was my great-great grandmother. If you are interested, I can provide the names and approximate birthyears of each of the other seven children. Levina Leslie married my great-great grandfather, Abner Thorp Newman, in Clermont County, Ohio, on May 15, 1859. Abner was named for his grandmother's father, Abner Thorp, who served in the Continental Army, as a member of the Quartermasters corp., under General George Washington. Well, guess I am getting a little off the Coe course. Would be interested in anything else you might have on the Coe family. Thanks again for the quick reply.

James,
Delighted to hear from you. It is quite possible that the Sarah Coe who married Jacob Leslie was a daughter of John and Sarah (Major) Coe of Adams and Brown Counties, OH. I do not have a complete list of their children.
Do you know where they were married? I did not find a record of their marriage in the probate holdings of either county.
I have posted below material from page 375 of the book “The Coe Families of Maryland and Virginia.” For additional information, please see http://peggysue5.homestead.com/Coe.html

About 1825 John Coe of Byrd Township, Brown County, OH, was indicted for stealing 20 pieces of silver money valued at $1.00 each, 10 pieces valued at $.93 each, 10 pieces valued at $.20 each, and one piece valued at $.55. The money was taken from Robert Elder. He was found not guilty.

The only Coe's living in Brown Co. that could possibly be Sarah Coe's parents are a John and Sarah Coe. They are listed as living in Huntington Twp., Brown Co. in 1830, with their ages listed as John 42, and Sarah 34. Could John have been the son of Milburn Coe? John lists his place of birth as Maryland, and his wife's place of birth as Pennsylvania. Any information you can provide on this line of Coe's would greatly be appreciated.

Shaun,
Delighted to hear from you. You asked about the Coe family.
A limited edition of "The Coe Families of Maryland and Virginia" was recently published. They are beautiful! Handsomely bound in rich textured Spanish brown and embossed in gold, I'm very proud of them. The 1467-page, two-volume, set represents over twenty-three years of work. They look like a set of fine encyclopedias and are as professionally presented.
They contain a complete and accurate account of the Coe family. For additional information, please see http://peggysue5.homestead.com/Coe.html
Thank You,

Hi. I have John L. in my tree. I have a birth year, 1801, on him. On his wife
MaryAnn Born 1806 in Smyth County, Virginia. I do have him as the son of
William born 1779 died 1837. He was married to Lavich Barrett born 1780.
John L. had a son John Jefferson. Do you need info on him? I have a little
more on him. But I believe most of my information came from Carl Coe and his
book.
Hopefully he can answer more. Cathy

Coe is the son of William Coe and Lavica Barrett? Do you have any information on Mary Ann McCollum's parents? Any of this information would be appreciated. Thanks....
