I'm looking for suggestions as to sources to check for information on John2
Cole, said to be the son of James1 Cole of Plymouth MA. (Can find no
primary proof of this either.)
The Great Migration Begins 1:423 states he was b. c1630 and is possibly the
same whose inventory was taken, 15 Dec. 1676, at Portsmouth RI. PCR 5:234
states he left 2 sons & 2 daughters. The only unaccounted for marriage I
can find that could be his is at Plymouth, 21 Nov. 1667, to Elizabeth
Rider.
I'm trying to confirm his marriage and children. If anyone has any info or
suggestions on sources, I'd appreciate it.
Susan.

COE, Sarah -born ~1800 ENGLAND >1830 CT > Knox County, Nebraska USA
From:*GOMMER@aol.com> In the cemetery where some of my* ancestors
are buried, is a marker with the name Sarah COE, Mother, on it.
A family member who published a book about the village our family
founded in Knox County, Nebraska, states that she had always been
told these were Grandfather Brooks' people. Here is what I have
gathered and made an educated guess about. George H. BROOKS, was
born in England as the oldest of the 11 children of Samuel BROOKS
and Sarah HEATON. This family came to America and settled in
Connecticut sometime prior to 1830. They eventually ended up in
Yantic/Ledyard/Poquetanuck, Connecticut. The two daughters of
George H. BROOKS married brothers and moved to Knox County, Nebraska
Eventually George H. BROOKS and his wife, followed them in their
latter years, since the other children died young. Apparently some
of George H. BROOKS' siblings eventually came as well. I think that
Sarah COE is a sister of George H. BROOKS, as she is buried near the
plot where George H. BROOKS is buried. Also, she is buried next to
a woman who I have identified as a sister of George H. BROOKS,
Mary BROOKS Reniff. I have searched county records & census records
to no avail. I have also read all the local newspapers extant in the
Nebraska State archives. There were a number of COE families in Knox
County Nebraska about this same time but I cannot connect them.
If anyone can provide us clues about this woman, please do. Thanks.

When the Unassigned Lands of Oklahoma Territory were opened for settlement
in 1889, a number of COLE cousins homesteaded in a small area between
present-day Arcadia and Luther, Oklahoma. That's the northeastern corner
of Oklahoma County, very near the middle of the state.
My GGgrandfather, Wm. A. "Bob" COLE, was one of them. Family tradition has
it that the one whose homestead adjoined his to the east was his first
cousin. Land records show his name to have been Charles COLE, and my
GGgrandfather did have a first cousin by the name of Charles COLE, who was
born in Obion Co., TN in 1844.
I believe, but have no proof, that the homesteader Charles COLE died before
the 1900 census. On the census for that area, I did find a widow, Laura
COLE, listed as the head of household living with her children and
stepchildren.
The problem: this is not an unusual name. When I piece together census
records and oral tradition for this branch of the family, I get a chart for
Charles COLE that shows seven children with four wives. The dates are
plausible, so it's not a matter of resolving contradictions -- but it does
make me wonder whether there might have been more than one Charles COLE in
the area. [There were at least four Wm COLEs living in within a couple of
miles of each other at that time.]
If you have a Charles COLE in that part of Oklahoma Territory, whether one
of the original homesteaders or a later arrival, I'd like to compare notes.
I have a considerable amount of information to share on this extended
family.

I'm looking for descendants of several COLEs who appeared on the 1840
census of Obion Co., TN.
The 1830 census shows a John H. COLE, whom I believe to be my
GGGGgrandfather, John Henry COLE. He died in 1835, but oral tradition has
it that he had a large family. So far, I've been able to account for only
four children: Elizabeth, James Madison, Merrill, and Mexico.
The 1840 census for Obion Co., TN shows four COLEs:
Edmon -- possibly one of my GGGgrandfather's "missing" brothers.
James M. -- my GGGgrandfather.
Howell -- possibly still another brother but more likely my
GGGgrandfather's brother, Merrill, who appears on the 1850 census as Marvel
and was supposedly already married and living in Obion Co in 1840.
Samuel -- possibly one of my GGGgrandfather's "missing" brothers.

I do apologize for the non-standard subject line, but this isn't exactly a
standard query because instead of information about an individual I'm
looking for extended family who may have lived in the area of Greencastle,
Indiana.
I have a COLE family that apparently migrated from TN & KY through IN and
KS to Oklahoma Territory.
John H. COLE and wife Sarah FLOYD were in Kentucky in the 1850s. Sons
William and Joseph D. were born there -- but I know nothing about other
siblings.
By 1889, both sons were in Oklahoma Territory with their families -- but I
don't know what became of John & Sarah.
In the 1880s, it appears that not only William and Joseph, but also two of
John's brothers [Tolbert & Clayton] were in Neodesha KS with their
families. Both William's wife, Margaret [maiden name unknown] and Joseph's
wife, Sunie BLIZZARD, were born in Indiana.
I've recently learned that a collateral line came to Neodesha from
Greencastle, Indiana -- and therefore have a hunch that John H. COLE &
family also lived in that part of Indiana.
If any of your COLEs were in that area, please write -- I'd love to compare
notes.

Hi Carl,
Thanks for looking for info on Mary Ann Coe. We know nothing more than what I
sent.
I have a copy of article referring to Romaine Coe b Jan 4, 1848 in Ohio who
was the son of Samuel Coe and his families.
Also a copy referring to James Richard Coe b Aug 14, 1861 in WV who was the
son of William Givin Coe and his families.
I have no idea if any of these are connected or not. Both of these families
were in Wash. state in the 1800s. Romaine came to Wash. state in 1879 and
James came to Wash. state in 1877.

Hi -
I'm posting this to the list with particular attention to Carl Coe.
Looking for info on Mary Ann COE. (born July 28, ___ died Jan 17, 1861) She
married my gr-gr grandfather William C. RUTLEDGE on May 20, 1860 in Thurston
Co., Wash. Her stone has been vandalized so the year of birth is unknown. It
says "Mary Ann B. Coe" We think the "B" could be her maiden name but not
sure. She probably was a widow and the Coe name could have been from that
marriage.
William C. Rutledge born Aug 16, 1794 in Maryland d. June 1, 1872 in
Tumwater, Wash., his first wife, Margaret Moore was born Mar 3, 1792 in
Lancaster Co., Penn, and died Oct 8, 1858 in Tumwater, Wash.
