Do you have any bro or sisters of Susannah? Was she either born in CT.? We
have Coe ancestors from Suffolk who came to Ct sometime between 1626 and
1658.
Hello!
I am trying to connect Susannah COE (below) to the unfortunate Roger COE
(follows):
Any help would be much appreciated! Scenario: my son, David, is married to
Elisabeth, son of Coe -- as in COE family tree. (Coe has the history &
*huge* charts, but *I* have the computer and Family Tree Maker 4.0!)
Gratefully,

[from ?? family history]: "Fox's book of martyrs states that Roger Coe of
Milford, Suffolkshire was burned at the stake by Queen Mary in 1555." [Roger
Coe's relationship to rest of Coe family is unclear.)
=====
(from Family Tree Maker's World Family Tree CD #1, Tree #1361)
It is an interesting fact that during Queen Mary's reign in 1555, Roger Cooe
of Suffolk County, England, the section of the country whence the family came
to America, was burned at the stake in his extreme old age a martyr to the
truths of gospel. His trial is related by Fox in the book of martyrs where
it is represented that he most decidedly and faithfully testified to the
truth and suffered patiently but firmly for Christ and his teachings.

I"m trying to find Reuben Cole, he is listed on the 1874 BRANCH COUNTY MI
census 1874. He was a farmer in Bethel Township, Branch county MI. He
married Agnes, they had 3 daughters Sabra Mabel Cole who married John
Charles Brook, Luna Cole, Beula(Bertha) Cole Butcher. His father is not
known to me but I suspectthat it could be a Winslow Cole who purchased
land in Bethel Township Jan 11, 1836 his home was listed as Lenawee Co.
MI. I would like to know if anyone else has turned up the same Coles

A. E. "Ed" Cole was one of the early settlers in what is now northeastern
Oklahoma County, OK. His full name may have been Albert Edward -- but
that's from memory, not documentation. Although I have not been able to
find his homestead records, I did find him mentioned in a local newspaper
shortly after the turn of the century.
He was born March 3, 1867, probably in TN but possibly in KY, and died
August 31, 1941, probably in Luther Oklahoma as he is buried in the Luther
Cemetery. His daughter Amanda married Thomas H. Huntington. I don't
remember his wife's name or whether there were other children -- "Aunt
Mandy" was the only one I knew when I was growing up.
I can't document his ties to the other COLEs who settled in Deep Fork and
Luther Townships, but I'll be glad to share speculation and oral traditions
with anyone who finds this a familiar name.

James Madison COLE, Jr. is one of my major mysteries. He was born in
Obion Co., TN Nov. 19, 1836. Notes from research my grandmother's cousin
made over 50 years ago give his date of death as December 27,1856 -- the
same as his father, James Madison COLE, Sr. There could certainly have
been a common accident or illness, but I suspect it may have been an error
because the Oklahoma pioneer I had thought was the son of James Madison
COLE, Jr. was not born until 1867. (I had also believed that the J.M. COLE
whose funeral notice I posted earlier today was the son of James Madison
COLE, Jr., but I have no supporting evidence.)
Parents, James Madison Cole, Sr. (born February 17, 1813 in Obion Co. TN
and died December 27, 1856 in TN) and Mariah Mathews (born February 12,
1810 in Virginia and died February 12, 1854 in TN).
Known Siblings:
Mary Frances Cole b: December 15, 1834 in Obion County, TN
John Mexico Cole b: January 16, 1838 in TN d: October 08, 1840
in TN
William A. Cole b: January 23, 1840 in Obion County, TN d: January 17, 1902
in Luther, OK
Elizabeth Cole b: Abt 1842 d: Unknown
Nancy Cole b: Abt 1843 d: Unknown
Martha Cole b: Abt 1845 d: Unknown
If anyone here knows anything about possible descendants of James Madison
COLE, Jr., I'd sure like to compare notees.

Is anyone here researching this line?
John Henry Cole, born between 1770 & 1780, by undocumented tradition in VA
or the Carolinas. Wife's first name may have been Mary. They lived in TN
in the early 1800s, John Henry died April 15, 1835 in Hickman Co, Ky (near
the Tenn. line). I don't know how many children they had, in all, but have
information on four:
Mexico Cole -- born 1811 in TN, died 1869 in Pemiscot, Co. MO.
James Madison Cole, Sr. -- born February 17, 1813 in Obion Co. TN, died
December 27, 1856 in Obion Co. TN.
Elizabeth "Minerva" Cole -- born 1815 in Tennessee, died 1870 in Pemiscot
Co. MO
Marvel/Merrill Cole -- born 1818 in Tennessee, date of death unknown,
probably in Obion Co., TN.
My ggrandfather mentioned one other by name, William. This brother
supposedly settled in KY, but as my ggrandfather described this as a "big"
family I suspect that there may have been others I don't know about. To
put his comment into perspective: ggrandfather himself had four children,
his parents had six, and his grandparents had at least six.

I found a funeral notice in my grandmother's Bible after she died, along
with other obituaries she had saved. I'll attempt to reproduce as closely
as possible, except for centering and the traditional black border: I have
not been able to determine exactly where he fit into the extended COLE
family in Obion Co., TN -- but perhaps someone else will recognize him.

Hi gang,
Sharon McAllister's ancestors, Obediah and John Henry Cole (COE-D Digest
V97 #17), are in the right place at the right time to connect with my
father's family line, and I hope somebody might have records of some of
their other descendants.
My g-g-grandmother, Betty Cole, was born in TN and m. John Shirley (b 28
Sep 1811 in SC) before 1836. They had three children, Mary Elizabeth (my
g-grandmother, who m. John C. Dove and moved to MS), J. Rebecca and Hester.
Family tradition has it that she was Indian or at least partly of Native
American ancestry. A photograph I have of Mary Elizabeth supports that
idea, as I know that the Shirley line was not NA, and the Cole surname in
TN apparently has some NA connections.
Any ideas?

I am looking for anyone also researching the Koenen family in and around
Clara CIty, Minnesota. I've found in my research two brothers: Aise Tjabe &
John Tjabe Koenen married two sisters: Gesena & Gebka Avers. These two
families make up all the koenen's in chippewa County.
I would like to contact anyone who is also doing research on these families.

: I am researching a Robert Coe born in Kentucky, moved to Oklahoma, He
had
: relatives in San Franisco, that went by COLE, robert was born 3-18-1865,
: parents unknown.
(Sorry, I'm too new to figure out who wrote this so I'll have to send my
response back through the list.)
I didn't find any COEs in the homestead records for Deep Fork or Luther
Township. All of the cousins who settled in that area used the COLE
spelling. I only learned of the COE/COLE connection recently.
I know less about the KY branch of the family. I have a Joseph D., born in
1857, and William L. born in 1859, supposedly brothers, probably from the
Hickman/Fulton Co. area. No information on J.D. after the 1900 census,
although I found the graves of his wife and some of their children. No
information on Wm. or any of his family after 1900.

William A. "Bob" Cole was born in Obion Co., TN in 1840, to James Madison
COLE and Mariah Mathews COLE. He was a scout for the Union during the
Civil War, married Mary Ellen CROCKETT and moved to MO in the early 1860s,
and on to Neodesha, KS in 1869. The family's final move was to Deep Fork
township (in what is now Oklahoma County, OK) in 1889, where he died in
1902.

Dora Edwina COLE (m. Charles Long)
Otho M. COLE (m. Anna Milligan)
Albert Grant COLE (m. Ida Nevada Ecker)

William Alonzo COLE (m. Anna Hennessey)
Will be glad to share information if anyone else is researching this
family. "Uncle Bob", as he was known in the community, was my gggrandfather
and I know quite a bit about his descendants. Less about his ancestors and
various cousins who also homesteaded in this area.

Looking for descendants of Tolbert F. COLE, whom I believe died in Oklahoma
Co., OK sometime between 1900 and 1930. Most likely soon after the turn of
the century, as he was not buried in the community cemetery that replaced
family burial plots about that time.
Tolbert F. COLE was born in TN about 1833, to Obediah and Mary COLE. The
1850 census shows the family in Rutherford Co., TN, but at least some
members of the family supposedly moved to Obion Co. TN after that. I have
no proof, but cemetery records from Obion Co. do include some probable
matches.
In the 1890s, Tolbert COLE homesteaded in the Iowa Lands -- in what is now
Luther Township, Oklahoma Co., OK. He is found there on the 1900 census
with his wife Viola. I believe that the James S. COLE whose homestead
cornered Tolbert's was his son, but have not documented that. I also
believe that other children remained behind in TN, but have not been able
to remember their names.
According to oral tradition, Tolbert COLE was my ggggrandfather's first
cousin. His father, Obediah COLE, was supposedly the younger brother of my
gggggrandfather John Henry COLE. I'd like to compare notes with anyone
who recognizes this name. I have quite a bit more information about the
Oklahoma branch of the family, a little more about the KY & TN branches.
