Hello.
Frederick C. Lingg (1841-1918) is my 2x great grandfather. My father says that his grandmother, Clara Lingg always told him they were related to William Cody "Buffalo Bill" but was never able to validate it.
Were you ever able to find the link to the Lingg/Cody family?
Thank you in advanced for sharing any information with me.
Katherine Lingg Bray

I was told I was related to BB Cody as well and a lady in Madison, Wisconsin was writing a book. That was information that went back to at least 1980. That is all I know. I

You are correct. The information I was given was incorrect. Pearl Vanderventer married Lyle F Hurd on May 14, 1914. They had one son Lyle F. Hurd, Jr, who was my FIL. Lyle, Sr's father (and I don't have my noted in front of me so am doing this from memory) was, I believe, Arbus Hurd. I haven't looked at my notes for some, but some woman connected to Arbus was a Cody, either his wife, his mother, or his grandmother. In a conversation with the director of the Cody Museum, apparently not much information on this branch of the family has been collected. Am hoping to go into the Irish Hills area in southern Michigan and see what I can find out.

Sorry its been so long to reply. Indian supposedly comes in with Lucretia Arrington. From what I remember seeing somewhere, she was supposed to have been 1/2 Indian. Cherokee I think. I am going from memory because I wasn't sure at the time if she was related so I have NO proof of any of this. Indian research was difficult at best so I just gave up.

Hello,
Knowing a bit more info would help the forum to help you. Do you know what
the "L" stood for? When and where was your John L Cody born? In fact, turns
out that there were a great many John L Cody males across the vast United
States, and in many regions and time periods.
Providing any further clues would assist those to help connect; such as:
Who was he married to, when did he die, where did he live and raise a family?
What was your grandmother's name - and possibly her maiden name, or
when/where was she born? Do you know the names of any of his siblings at all - or
where they may have lived? If we have more of these beginning pieces, we
can likely offer to you solid advice to follow, but are looking forward to
hearing back from you so that we may offer helpful guidance. Too, perhaps
there may already be a diligent family researcher on this board - or you
will happily meet up here with a distant cousin! :)

I'm looking for relatives and descendents of my grandfather. He was from a
family of many siblings. He was a distant cousin of William F (Buffalo
Bill) Cody. If you have any information about the family, please respond.

Not any more. Lived in Gaffney as a child but moved to FL. As you can probably guess we still have alot of family there.
Have you recently started tracing your family?
I worked for a couple of years quite a bit on mine but started hitting brick walls and right now I don't have as much time to devote to it.
Sure is interesting what you can find sometimes.
