I have a cousin whose grandfather said he was related to William F. Cody. His last name was Putnam (from Massachusetts) It could also be a spouse who is connected. A grandson is doing research for a school project and we are all trying to help him.
Thank you for your help and investigations.

Greetings folks,
Since I'm new to the CODY list and genealogy is something I've just begun
to develop a personal interest in, I'll give a little background. I'm
researching a number of surnames - FERIS / FARRIS / FARIS / LEWIS /
REYNOLDS / BALL / COADY / CODY / BENNETT. Right now, I'm focused solidly on
my wife's ancestry. I'm looking for any assistance and/or solid information
out there about the COADY / CODY family who immigrated from Newfoundland
via Boston, MA. Here's what I have so far...please excuse my lack of
experience if this is too much background information.
William and Annie CODY appear in the 1910 US Census data in Boston. [I do
not know Annie's maiden name, so am eager to learn about her
family/background.] Both are age 32 (so b.~1878 in Canada). Residence is
listed as Boston Ward 2, Suffolk, Massachusetts. With them are three
children, all listed as born in Massachusetts.
1) Harold, age 3 (~1907)
2) William, age 2 (~1908)
3) Nicholas, age 6m (so ~1909/10)
The same family appears in the NL GenWeb 1921 Census data (Holyrood
Central) - now under the surname COADY. All are listed as born in Holyrood
Central, NOT Boston. Note that Nicholas here is a different child. I have
it on good authority from my wife's father that the first Nicholas
tragically fell off a dock and drown, logically sometime between 1910 and
1921 (sometime before his 11th birthday). The family consists of:
-William COADY (age 43, b. Aug 1878)
-Anne COADY (age 43, b. Aug 1878)
-Harold COADY (age 14, b. Nov 1907)
-William COADY (age 13, b. Dec 1908)
-Albert COADY (age 11, b. May 1910)
-Francis COADY (age 7, b. Sept 1914)
-Nicholas COADY (age 5, b. Mar 1916)
-Alice WALL (b. May 1903 in Holyrood Central) is listed alongside the
family as a domestic servant.
The COADY family next appears in the 1930 US Census in Boston, again with
surname COADY. The estimated birth dates are all a bit askew, but the
names/ages/etc are all on the money. The event place states: "Boston
(Districts 1-250), Suffolk, Massachusetts". Annie is now age 53. Her
marital status states she is now "widowed". [This would suggest that
William COADY must have died sometime between 1921 and 1930, but I have no
facts to support this, and I am very eager to learn more about his
whereabouts/passing.] The data also reveals that Annie immigrated in 1903,
well before she appears in Boston in the 1903 US Census. Her five sons are
with her in 1930:
-Harold (age 22, born in MA)
-William (age 21, born in MA)
-Albert (age 17, born in Nfd, immigrated 1926)
-Frank (age 15, born in Nfd, immigrate in 1926)
-Nicholas (age 14, born Nfd, immigrated 1926)
That's as far as I can get with the US Census data. Like many of you, I'll
have to wait for the National Archives to release the 1940 census digitally
on April 2, 2012.
Here's what I know beyond that point, however. Nicholas Patrick COADY, the
youngest of the five brothers joined the armed forces. He married Agnes
BENNETT (b. Apr 1916 in Holyrood) in 1941. In 1942 they gave birth to their
only child, Robert J. COADY (aka Bob) in San Diego, CA. Bob married
Anacleta "Lita" Coady, and they have two children, Jason and Heather, both
living. Heather is my wife.
I am eager to share this information with others who can, hopefully,
compliment it and fill in the gaps with their own data. I have a good deal
more info on Agnes BENNETT's family history in Holyrood, as well as quite a
few photos of the COADY and BENNETT families and friends in Holyrood.
I have a number of other suspicions/assumptions about the COADY/BENNETT
families that I am eager to share, but I cannot base them on any facts and
don't want to insert fiction into fact, so I am withholding those for now.
Particularly questions include...
1) Who were William and Annie COADY (b. Aug 1878)? Who/where were they
descended from? What happened to William? What happened to Annie?
2) What became of the other four COADY brothers (Harold, William, Albert &
Frank), and where are their families now located?
Best regards and I hope to be in touch!
Zach Feris

I have a Cody book but there is no listing of any of the names you mention in your post except Moore and it does not look like there is a relationship.

I am interested in looking into the history of my family on my mothers side of the family. I know that my grandmother Julia Ann Peebler Vickere was related to William F. Cody, and and I want to track my family from there. I do know that I have relatives in Vale, OR with the name of Kinney. But I want to know where the relatives originated from, and who am I related to. I know there are books out there that list the relatives, but with no source of money to purchase them, thats no use to me. I do not know what Ruth Kinneys maiden name was. that is who I am related to.
