I grew up being told we were ralted to Buffalo Bill Cody, and that there is a book with my name in it. How would I find that out, where would I find out about a book, and what relationship I am to him. My parents and grandparents and the relatives that had access to this book are all deceased and no one seems to know what happened to it. Thank you for any help you can give me

I do not have any information on the Cody's. It seems none of my grandmother's family passed on any info about the marriage of McGrew & Cody. I was researching in an effort to see if I could learn anything. From what I've read it appears the Cody's apparently had no information on this either. Sorry, I can't help you more.

Thank you for sharing this information (re your posting shown below).
Can you help some of the other researchers here further, possibly? Where
can we find more information and records of this family being of Dutch /
German origin? Are there documents someplace? Anything will help!
It was always understood that this family (Miles / Godfrey, etc) descended
from Pierce Cody (whose family lines later settled in TN/NC, etc) and that
they were supposedly of English origin, but from what you are saying is
that could be wrong?
Thanks in advance for any place to look, or for providing who /where to
contact, etc.
Connie

Hi, apparently we are cousins. My grandfather was William Patrick Cody born 1982 in Enniscorthy and James's older brother. Your GGF James (and his wife Sarah) were godparents to my mother Elizabeth, born in NYC in 1898.
I know James had about 13 children and frankly these Cody's were so prolific I followed only my own family. I am currently away on vacation but would be happy to share with you my research when I return. E-mail me at dwwalsh(a)att.net
after April 20th when I return home. Nice to have a family contact.

I'm related to James J. Cody who was born in 1863 to a Matthew Cody from Enniscorthy, Ireland. He was my paternal great-great grandfather. Perhaps we are distant cousins.

You asked about the reunions in Ohio, and how you might be related.
I'd suggest that you contact them directly to find out the relationship
details. They do have a professional genealogist at
genealogistatcody-famiy.org (be sure to substitute the "symbol" for the
word "at" in the email
address) and are very helpful with family records of existing members. Or
you
might contact the Museum in Wyoming.
Happy Hunting with your searching!

I don't think I can help really but would if I could. I would also like to know more. My son's Dad passed away in 2002. He said that his family was related to Buffalo Bill as well through his great grandmother. Her name was Malinda Sophronia Cody, daughter of Stephen Cody. I may have some more information but that is all I can remember off the top of my head. If anyone reading this can help please contact me. I would love to be able to share this information with my son. God bless, Sharon

every year my aunt receives an invitation to a reunion in Ohio for the buffalo bill family reunion thing. She has never gone and that's all the information I have other than that we must obviously be related to him somehow. But how are we related? The invitation I think is always made out to my great aunt or great grandmother. My great aunts name was Rachel Marie Kean and my great grandmothers name was Iva Leona (Lowman) Kean. Any information would be appreciated.

It has the exact title and author that was mentioned in the first post and what I stated in my post. I can send a photo of it if I had your email address--but I don't know how to send private info, not through this message board? My mother paid $45 for it back in 1993--we found her check stub! It may be out of print. She wants $65 for it which includes the mailing costs--it's heavy. I have a PayPal account--to use that I would require $2 more for the PayPal fee = $67. Or you could send a cashiers check or money order. I'll try to find out how to send a private email through this web site. Let me know if you're still interested.
