I, too, am a decendant of William Cody. My Great great great grandmother on my grandfathers side was Mary Helen Cody or Ellen Cody. Thats how far I have researched because I cannot find her parents name... She was married to Rudolf Gallas. Does this help?

I'm looking for information about Laura Cody who was born in about 1875 in Louisiana. She was the daughter of John Washington Cody (born about 1827 Mississippi) and Martha Ann Hopkins (1839-1892). She is shown in the 1880 census in Bayou Sea, Sabine Parish, Louisiana with her parents and the children from Martha's first marriage to Samuel Sanderson. I don't have any other information about her. I can't find her under her maiden name in the 1900 census. I have no idea if she might have married or already passed away.

My dad's side of the family is Irish, and for the longest time I can remember hearing stories about how I'm related to Buffalo Bill Cody.
In my searches for the Coat of Arms for Cody, was two Spanish princes came to Ireland. Cody was part of their surname that changed over the centuries.

The International Cody Family Association can be found at http://www.cody-family.org/
I encourage anybody who thinks they may be related to contact them. This is a very reputable association. I'm not sure how long they've been around, but my family have been members as far back as 1950 or so. Buffalo Bill's own great-grandson is an active member.

Sorry, I don't. Buffalo Bill's ancestry wasn't Irish. The family name was originally Les Caude or of some other such French derivations (many variations have been found). They changed it to Cody.

As best as I can figure, he was the son of Jessie Cody b. 1880 in Wilkes County and died in Jackson County. He had a sister, Martha Cody who married Elijah Clark.(my direct line)
I am most interested in Alfred's third wife. Mahalie Head Patton Duncan Cody. I have been butting the Mahalie Head wall for some years now. Any clues or help will be greatly! appreciated. The son of Martha and Elijah Craft, William Craft married Mahalie Head's daughter Frances L (Ella) Patton. She was Alfred Cody's stepdaughter. Please let me know where you found the line in South GA. Mahala married James Patton in Pike county GA.

Hi Paul! Very nice to hear from you ~ it's been awhile!:-)
I do believe after all these years, I have found my Catie's owner -- Madison Derrelle CODY (the Warren Co. Rep for the Confederacy). I have much of the discovery process posted to my OGR blog (http://ourgeorgiaroots.com/?p=920).
I now need to return to the archives to dig deeper into the letters/docs the GA Archives have on film. I had read them [quickly] before, of course this was before I realized the connection to my Catie.
Thanks,
Luckie/Mechie

I this fellow kin to the family in Warren County, or to the Jackson County, family? He probably would have been the son of Jesse Cody should he have been in Jackson County, Georgia. I am still trying to untangle this family from Jackson County. Part of the family moved into S.Georgia.

There was only one Cody that I know in Richmond County, Georgia from the family in Warren County, Georgia. I would also say that there were probably more of the family that moved into the Richmond County, area. John Cody b. 1819 in Warren County, Georgia died in abt. 1839 in Richmond County, Georgia. If he had a family, and most likely did, I have no record of this family. Where does the Cody come into your family line?

No Genevive.
But I have an Adelaide Sophia Cody born 1850 in Oxford, Ontario Canada, but she died in 1920. A few of her children were born in Manitoba. She married John Ferrier in 1878. That's as close as I have to Adel.

Hi, Kathy. There are a lot of diligent researchers here to help you! Also,
there are many Cody family lines with different origins.
Knowing a few more details will certainly help us to zero in on the answers
to your Cody ancestry! Are you able to provide anything else - possibly any
range of dates, and / or locations for this Cody family? When and where was
she born? Where did she marry? Or perhaps you only know where she and
Alexander lived, raised their family? Are there some approximate dates? Do you
know where and when she died? (There were a number of "William Frederick Cody"
males, including some who were unrelated to "Buffalo Bill".) Too, anything
that you could share about her spouse, Mr. Grignon, could yield valuable
clues : where he was born, or lived in his later years - may serve to determine
where they married - and that could lead to what other Cody individuals, or
Cody family, lived in the same geographic location at the same time period.
Such is not always the case, but happens more often than not! : )
Perhaps any of your other family members, those of your direct grandparent
who was the offspring of Elizabeth would have hints in their records, too.
When and where did they live, etc. ? Family cemetery records are often 'out
there' for after all, at least for the great majority - they all to be buried
somewhere! These things can be unearthed, and offering anything else will
help others to help you! If nothing else, census records may provide clues to
her place of birth - and where he parents were born. Also, depending on the
era, possibly lead to the names of her parents.
(Lastly, obtaining a death certificate, not always possible depending on
the era or locale, may reveal the name of her Cody-father and her date and
place of birth, which are good facts that could significantly narrow down many
of these questions.)
Keep on asking here on the forum! We all enjoy assisting others and never
know when some contributors find a match to their own Cody heritage! So......
Keep us posted on how this Cody-research is going : anything you have, or
need, or may find! :)
