Sorry, I'm not showing any of these. You may still be related but "The Cody Family in America" doesn't list your family.

wife was Mary
this is all I have for now, a neighbor, which was a relative of my grandfather search about 50 years ago, he worked in the county courthouse and did this on his lunch time. He said there was a connection to BB Cody. At the time I was too young to be interested. I had a cousin tell me he was in the attic of this man's house and he had original posters of the Wild West Show. I can't imagine what happened to all of this, he was never married and his brother got the house and probably gave everything away.

Thanks. I am still trying to figure out my gggrandmothers family. It is a lot harder once you get back past 1840 and if you have no idea which county in Tennessee your family hails from. Stories are just that until you have something more substantial to verify them.

Here is the website for the International Cody Family Association: http://www.cody-family.org/ - Great people!
A word of caution though, Buffalo Bill's genealogy (and his life story, for that matter) contains a great deal of fiction, and, not all Codys/Coadys are related to him. William Frederick Cody is of Irish/Norman French ancestry.

Where can I view the information you have. My father told me we were somehow related. My grandfather went to one of his Wild West Shows when he came to Pennsylvania. I've been told that he also visited the house next to his. Everyone is deceased who can tell me anything. I'm just curious.

I'm happy to do lookups in "The Cody Family in America" but I really must have more information than "my grandma was a Cody" or "my grandpa was John Smith and says we're related". Whenever possible, please provide any dates and locations
I cannot send you the entire Cody genealogy, so please don't ask. It's simply too massive (I have 30,000 names). I can look a name up, provide the immediate information and some background that pertains to that family and how the relationship to Buffalo Bill occurs, but I cannot send the whole thing.
Thanks.

I'm not sure what you'd learn from DNA testing since you don't know for sure whose hair it was. Testing might link you to the former owner but, still, who was the former owner of the hair? I don't think BB had red hair but I could be wrong about that.

In adding to the orignal post....
Edmund Cody was Willim Frank Cody's father, I am finding conflicting dates of birth and places for him.
Edmund's father was John Cody Sr. and I havent found anything on him yet, I have found a James Cody with a son named Edmund. I'm really getting confused now. All of my grandmother's family is gone now that I know and putting the pieces together is hard!

My grandfather was William McHenry Cody married Ada Katherine Johnson. Parents: John Johson & Amanda Collins (she was related to the Rhea's and the Mullin's and Odell's. They were of Melungeon descent, related to Mahala Mullins her father was a Collins. Children of William McHenry and Ada: Jesse, Andy, Roy, Amalene, Epp, and Frank. William McHenry went by the name Hen and he died 14 July 1960. William McHenry's parents were James Cody 1846-1918, or Coda and he married Mary Frances Lawson 1857-1929. James Cody's parents were, I think, William Frederick Cody and Mahala Fletcher. I think William Frederick's parents were Zedekiah & Tabitha.
My name is Wanda Cody Martin and my father was Roy Lee Cody and he married Edna Pearle Eden(s). Her parents were: William Sherman Eden(s) and Ida Yeary.

stanhoop asked "Does anyone know when the Cody family reunion is at in Tennessee or North Carolina this month and what time it is. I hope I haven't missed it already. Does anyone know of any Cody family reunions that are to be held in any other states?"
There was a group from Mississippi that had a Cody Reunion a couple of years ago.
Descendants of William Robert Cody of North Carolina have a reunion every year over Labor Day weekend, regularly.
Descendants of Charles H. Cody (used to, anyway. still do?) have a reunion every year in Arkansas.
There also used to be another Cody family who had one annually in Oklahoma, and another one in San Diego - depends on which group you are related to, and sometimes which 'branches'.
There's got to be bunches more of them around, seems that Cody is not such an uncommon name.
I heard once that Billy Ray Cyrus was related to the Cody family, somehow, too. Wonder if they have a reunion somewhere?

Has any of the Cody relatives done Dna testing? I aquired an old old book with an actual newspaper article announcing his 70th birthday. With this article is a lock of long red hair. I thought about having a DNA test on it for the heck of it but don't know where to start. Can anyone suggest to me?
Thanks,
Susan

In reply to this week's posting re Dora and Andrew:
They had four sons - all of whom lived to have numerous offspring and grandchildren. (Their son Herbert, who was mentioned in a recent forum inquiry, was possibly named for Dora's brother Herbert who had 8 children.)
Dora Belle Cody (who indeed lived to be 101 years old) was a 3C4R (third cousin-four times removed) to William Fredrick Cody (aka "Buffalo Bill"), re the answer to any aforementioned speculation of their exact relationship. (That is, they were both related directly as per their paternal ancestral lineages that are fully corroborated with irrefutable documentation, inclusive of being printed and recorded in historical archives.)
