Message Board Post:
I'm seeking information about Peter Cody and his parents. I believe he was born in Ireland, possibly Cork in 1837. We came to America, possible via Canada. But there are also family rumors he grew up in New York.
I believe he married Mary Quigley; His children include Peter, Michael, Mary, Tina, Daniel, and Leo. He died in 1929.
Thanks,
Doug

~Cody, Samuel N., age 4, b. IL [Samuel Newton CODY [1846 IL-1919 SD] m.
Nelly UNKNOWN MARRIED NAME, m. 1874 2nd) Mary Ida TIEDT;
This information is incorrect, and I wanted to make time to jump in before
it again gets seized and passed around; since already it erroneously has been
showing up in other circles publicly posted, as some of us well recognize;
ugh. I am aware that you received an extract of the 1850 census, as you say -
and apparently the other details on these folks have been inserted by you or
them. That's a good thing, as others can then add or refute (with credible
sources) information that will clarify or expand. On that note, perhaps I can
assist - in the interest of accuracy, if nothing else.
Fact is: While Samuel Newton may well have married a second time to "a"
"Mary", it most definitely is not to the person as Mary Ida Tiedt. That Mary
Ida Teidt married into the family in 1874, yes, but she married Samuel's
NEPHEW John; and remained married to him until the time she died, with this
couple always living in IL. I can assure you that this is correct, all offline
information that is irrefutable; and continues along with naming their own
children and gg's, etc. from years of extensive research that has been compiled.
Naturally, I'm always more than happy to provide such to descendants.
It's important to know that Samuel N. was of an earlier generation, and
eventually migrated to SD (after he suddenly departed - recorded as being
reported AWOL, no less - from the Illinois Home for Soldiers and Sailors. I have
examined these papers personally, copies always on file. Bear in mind, all this
was while John and Mary Ida were still wedded, and had by then been provided
with grandchildren who were born of their own numerous offspring.) As to
Samuel N., he died in South Dakota about ten years after that; as you already
correctly know and have provided above. Naturally, John and Mary Ida both died
after Samuel Newton.
I now see that you apparently do not (or have not included?) have any record
of this John, who is fact the youngest son of the person of whom you first
made inquiry - Thomas Jefferson Cody (m. Harriet Leonard). Perhaps it was
simply omitted, while you did name only the first 3 children that you had been
given as extracted from the 1850 census? They (TJC and HL) also had another
daughter that you did not list, so I'm uncertain if you are already aware of
that information. However, as my time is severely limited, there's no sense in
typing out more on this family if it is only repetitious.......
Simply,
Barbara

Seeking descendants of Thomas Jefferson CODY & Harriet LEONARD with whom
to share data.
Oddly, I happened to open this, on the run - and it caught my eye.
Re your inquiry: I am not a direct descendant of TJC, but if his father was
indeed our Samuel ( who m. Susannah Armstrong), then it may be that I have
something to contribute. As a sibling of this Samuel's was my own direct, I do
have non-book papers relating to Samuel that are on file back in my home
office. However, it's handwritten and tedious to examine. Frankly, offhand, I
really don't know the answer re the question of Thomas Jefferson, but always
glad to help if I am able to do so.
At this point, I am heavily involved in several massive projects that have
demands of deadlines; and likely won't have any time to devote to this until
March 14th at the very earliest. It's fine to remind me if I haven't gotten to
you, then or any other time. After that, numerous other commitments are
already in place for many months thereafter; so rest assured that I am a diligent
and reputable researcher! Nevertheless, if I should come across anything
significant that may add to your own research questions pertaining to Harriet's
family, or to confirm that connection, I'll definitely field it in your
direction; at the email address that you have provided, Janice.
Likewise, if there should be any direct Cody family who are related and may
wish to communicate with me; by all means, that is always certainly welcome.
With hundreds of solely personal emails daily, these things quickly pile up -
but I do always respond.

Barbara
