Am seeking information on Turner Cody, b. 10 May 1825 and d. 1 Jan 1890. He died in Lincoln Co. North Carolina. I am particularly interested in who his father was.

I think you should see my tree for attached records. It is a public tree. I need all the help I can get.
My grandfather made a comment on how in the civil war his grandfather Jack told him that they would run through fields gathering soldiers.
Could it be a reason that AJ Cody would changed his name to Adams? The civil war had a 10% desertion rate. Do you know if AJ Cody fought in the war?
If I did not mention it before...a cousin claims Stephen Adams had 1 arm.

I have no idea. He had to have died later than 1869 because his son William was born in 1869. She was not found in the 1870 census but I may have missed her.

I will see if I can find an obit. on Margaret but they did not do a good job on writeups in those days. Some did but very few. Do you happen to know their religion? Friendship was a Premitive Baptist at one point. She also could be buried with her husband in some of the surrounding cemeteries.Maybe where the Adams are buried.

There are a lot of Codys buried at Friendship N. Cemetery in Detroit, Marion or Lamar County, Alabama but I have not seen the grave of Betty but that does not mean she is not buried there for there are a lot of graves unmarked. I find them in none of the census as of yet but I have found his son William G. who moved to Kaufman County, Texas. I would like to have found them in a census or two and that would help. Have you found them in a census?

If this is my ggggrandmother there are no dates on her tombstone. Just my luck. I have the picture of M E Adams marker. She is buried at Bethlehem Cemetery. Do you know where Betty Holligan is buried? Family says her huband(s) is/are buried at Friendship in a Cody family area- have not been there yet.
We decend from Andrew Jackson Adams. It is funny he has the same name as the AJ Coday. Has there been any reason AJ Coday might just change his name to Stephen Adams? Does anyone have a picture of him or his family?

This will be long....
We ask the family and based on a paid genealogist study ,which no one can tell me how, they have our gggfathers wife as an Elizabeth Holligan Cody Adams.
We have a picture of her tombstone as M E Adams in Bethlehem cemetery in MS but NO DATES.
Her husband who we have as family storys is Stephen Adams. All we know about him is he supposedly rode into town one day and said that he was from TN. One family memeber claims he had one arm-lost the other in the civil war. Only one photo we know of burned in a cousin home. He is suppose to be buried at Friendship cemetery in Marion county. The same one who bought the property from the Codys. In some type of brick marked off area. We have not been there for pictures yet.
We descend from Andrew Jackson "Jack" Adams and Nancy Clementine "Clem" Ritter from Mississippi. I have a photo of Jacks family. His som Wiley is the one who lost the photo.
I found what I think is my Stephen and Elizabeth in an 1870 Prentiss MS census. It list a Mary, Columbus, William, Stephen and Andrew.
I also found a 1880 Marion County listing a Margaret with a William C 20 and Andrew J 14. They elder members insist William is a Cody.
We can not even prove Stephen Adams is who he says he is
When pushing for how they came up with the name of M E Holligan Cody Adams first husband they used land records. Based on that when they are certain it pans out I think William may be a Cody but who is everyone else?
What do you know about your William?

Lamar County, was cut out of Marion County, Alabama. William G. was married about 4 times from what I have heard and he went to East Texas and also I believe at one point to Dallas. He may have also gone into Oklahoma at one point for a short stint.
I will have to pull him up and see what I have found on him.
I will let you know when I get home.

This is part of my line which I believe matches your line with Betty.
ANDREW JACKSON CODY
Andrew "Andy" Jackson CODY was born in Alabama (1828) and his wife was Betty (Margaret) Hooligan (or Holigan). Andrew was said to have been born in Alabama and Betty is to have died in 1893 in Marion County Alabama. Their children were:
Mary CODY born in 1854 in Alabama
Charlotte CODY born in 1858 in Alabama
William CODY was born in 1859 in Alabama (our direct line)
WILLIAM GEROMI CODY
William Geromi CODY was born in November 20, 1859 in Detroit Alabama. There is some confusion regarding his actual place of birth. Detroit Alabama is in Lamar County but other records of his birth says that he was born in Marion County.

I am thinking that Andrew J.Cody was James Andrew or Archdeacon Cody who lived in Marion County, Alabama and his son William G.Cody who moved into East Texas. This may be the man that they are thinking of or Andrew J. Cody may be the son of James. I could use more info. on this man.
