Don,
It doesn't sound like a relation. William Patrick Cody was my mothers Uncle and he settled in Massachusettes. He was born in 1901.
Good Luck with your research.

Eileen, My grandfather was named William Patrick Cody, born in Kilkenny in August 1862 to Mathew and Eliza Cody. He came to the US circa 1868 and lived in lower Manhattan and across the Hudson River in New Jersey. He was a longshoreman and later worked for the NYC Water Dept. He married a Margaret Kenneally.
His brothers and sisters were Mary, John, Thomas, and James the youngest. Any connections do you think?? Don Walsh

I read the letters you posted with great interest.//////
I have been trying to unravel a mystery involving Daniel Ross Coody for some time. In the course of my research, I discovered Daniel Ross Coody purchasing 160 acres of land in east Bexar County, Texas (San Antonio is the county seat) in 1856. He registered his cattle brand in 1856 (indicating he was physically present in Bexar county).//////
The land he purchased came into dispute in 1861...a buyer claiming to have purchased the land from Coody's agent...claimed that the agent had not registered the transaction./////
Coody, in 1871, apparently hired a lawyer Christopher Schroeder to secure the title and then sold the land to John Humphrey. The transactions refer to "Daniel Ross Coody from the Cherokee Nation". During this transaction Coody apparently resided in Ft. Smith, Arkansas./////
I speculate that he left Bexar county sometimes before the Civil War and returned to the Cherokee Nation...and the Cherokee Mounted Rifles./////
The 160 acres became a village called Cottage Hill (now gone). In Coody's time it would have been a stage stop on the Old Gonzales Road./////
My question is: Does anyone in the Coody family have any information on Daniel Ross Coody coming to Bexar County?

Well, I know Charles remarried after Eva/Evelyn Cody died. His second wife was named Lula-- I don't know her maiden name . And they were living in Elberton in the 1930 census.
He died in a car accident and Lula was driving the car. Don't have a date on his death but had to be after that census.
Eva's sisters-- Mamie and Lucille lived in or near Atlanta as my Grandma (Eva's daughter) met them in Atlanta sometimes for lunch.
My Gma (also named Eva) moved to Alabama in 1945 and lived there til she died in 1962. She married Samuel D. Brown from Carrollton.

I would agree with you on this. They must have at one point or another spent time in Atlanta. The rest of the family may have moved into Alabama and that is where I would look as they were right on the Alabama line.

Hi, Thank you for responding.
For Charles Garrett's parents-- I am looking at Wesley Robinson Garrett and Elizabeth A. Mercer. This has Charles born in 1852 in Heard Ga.With 2 brothers and 5 sisters. In the 1860 census this family was in Heard-- post office Franklin.
Wesley born 1816 in Laurens Co. SC and Elizabeth 1817 in Jasper Co., Ga.
The only other possibility I have is Charles M. Garrett with wife Paulina. This hAS Charles born 1854 in Va. This family also in Heard in 1860 census.
It's really a guessing game. What do you think?
Thanks. Pat
