Below is the obituary for his wife, Evelyn as posted from the Green Bay Press-Gazette:
Jan 02 2005
Cody, Evelyn Genevieve
Evelyn Genevieve Cody, age 85, of Oconomowoc, formerly of Green Bay, joined her husband John and two of her beloved sons, Johnny and Jim, in Heaven on December 30, 2004. The former Evelyn Friex was born in Green Bay on September 7, 1919, to the late Earl and Anna (Bressers) Friex. On August 24, 1940, she married John F. Cody in Green Bay and he preceded her in death on June 17, 1986. Evelyn always worked hard, but was also known for her love of fun. When her children were young, she worked parttime at J.C. Penney in Green Bay to pay for the family Christmas. Later she worked at Jandries, a department store in Neenah. In the early 1960’s, John’s health started to decline and soon after that he and Evelyn moved out west. Evelyn worked as personnel director for Kmart in California and Arizona. After John passed away, Evelyn traveled between Arizona and Wisconsin to spend time with her family. After several years, she settled with her son Jim and his wife Barb in!
Laughlin, Nevada. There she worked in an area casino selling antique slot machines and pianos until she retired at the ripe old age of 80. Alzheimer’s disease was the only thing that could stop Evelyn.
She will be sadly missed by her son Wayne (Mary) Cody, Oconomowoc, and her daughter-in-law, Barb (Jim) Cody, Laughlin, Nev., and by five grandchildren, Toni Strehlow, Green Bay, Keith (Lisa) Cody, Vista, Calif., Chris (Shari) Cody, De Pere, Shawn (Maccolm) McRavin, Tacoma Wash., and Lea Cody, Tempe, Ariz., and by eight great-grandchildren as well as may nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband John, also by her infant son Johnny Cody and son Jim Cody, as well as her sister, Marian (Herb) Jensen.
Friends may call at Proko-Wall Funeral Home & Crematory, 1630 E. Mason St., on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Visitation will continue Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral Home. Funeral service Wednesday 10:30 a.m. at Proko-Wall with the Rev. David Pleier officiating. Online condolences may be expressed at www.prokowall .com/obit.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Shorehaven Lutheran Home in Oconomowoc, Evelyn’s home for the last few years. Also thank you to the many family and friends in Green Bay who extended friendship and care to Evelyn in the early stages of her Alzheimer’s, especially Sheila and Ron O’Connor, Green Bay. We were deeply touched by your kindness. A memorial fund has been established with donations being given to Alzheimer’s disease research.
