William Coody most likely married Sinai Stacy, daughter of Simon and Judith Tolson Stacy. Simon and Judith Tolson Stacy were from Overwharton Parish, Stafford County, Virginia. Mason Combs (c1714-1785) and wife Sarah were also from Overwharton Parish and the Combs and Stacy families not only migrated together from Stafford County to Frederick County, Virginia by 1750, and to Rowan (Surry) County, North Carolina by 1768, but they knew each other in Stafford and Frederick Counties, Virginia , and their descendants intermarried. All these families tie in with John Coode's family. --Vern

Actually, I was hoping you could enlighten me. I am trying to find my ggrandfather anywhere in written record. Someone told me that he once worked for or with Buffalo Bill. I'll tell you what I know about him and you tell me if it could be remotely true.
His name was Burton Orello Cary. He was born in NY in 1878. He supposedly met his wife out west on a ranch where he was working, but "out west" is the best we could get. I know little else about him, except that all of his children were born in NY.
Do you know if there are any records anywhere that might name him, if he did have anything to do with the Wild West Show?
Thanks,
Lauri

I'm pretty sure both of those are wrong!
It's Norman. Coming from Oda le
Archdeacon who ruled the roost in the
13th Century. His sons used Mac Oda
and Archdeacon in Counties Tipperary
and Kilkenny Ireland. The Normans were
invaders and conquerors and never
considered of the original clans of Ireland,
although the Irish sounding name Macgillacuddy
is supposed to come from Co(a)dy also

Is the Cody name more English or Irish? My Grandfather said his family came from Manchester, England and the name is English not Irish.
Any help is grateful.
