I just want to tell researchers especially those new to genealogy to NOT GIVE UP. When I first started looking for my Dad's family all I had was his parent's names..............over the past 5 years with the help of complete strangers and cousins I have never met or knew about I have a pretty good history of my Cody line all the way back to Ireland......of course, there is plenty of work to be done but the main thing is don't lose interest......There are so many good people out there that are more than willing to help you.......

PORTSMOUTH - Helen G. Adams, 97, formerly of Leslie Drive, died peacefully on Saturday, April 30, 2005, while living at The Mark H. Wentworth Home in Portsmouth.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a faithful friend to her many neighbors and friends. She will be missed by those who knew her.
She was born on Dec. 25, 1907, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of James and Jennie (Noble) Cody. While in New York, she met and married Basil R. Adams, a professional musician. They moved to Laconia and spent several years there with their two sons. They later moved to Portsmouth, where Helen worked for many years for Kimball’s clothing store.
Many enjoyable summers were spent with family and friends at their summer camp on Square Pond in Acton, Maine.
Her volunteer efforts included the Clipper Home of Portsmouth, where the weekly highlight was "Helen’s Coffee Hour," and the Portsmouth Regional Hospital. She was a member of the Senior Friends, Portsmouth Senior Center, and was a perky "Red Hatter."
Helen and her husband, Basil, were active members of the original Portsmouth Country Club, and she was a member of the Club’s Women’s League.
They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1977 at the home of their son and daughter-in-law, John and Margaret Adams.
Her beloved husband, Basil, and granddaughter, Kathy, predeceased Helen. She leaves two sons, Basil R. Adams Jr. and wife Jean of Marana, Ariz., and John P. Adams and wife Margaret of Newington; grandchildren Cheryl Cage and husband Young of Tucson, Ariz., John P. Adams Jr. of Lakeland, Fla., and Basil G. Adams and wife Tracy of Dover; and great grandchildren Basil John Adams and Jacob Michael Adams, both of Dover.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth. Friends are invited. There will be no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to The Mark H. Wentworth Home, 346 Pleasant St., Portsmouth, NH 03801, or Seacoast Hospice, 1039 Islington St., Portsmouth, NH 03801.

We are also searching an ALBERT or BERT CODY who married MABLE (note the spelling) THOMAS. They had two children - first daughter was adopted to a family and then they had a son named DELBURT E. CODY. Birth years were 1909 and 1910.......... Are they in your family? Our quest is to confirm the parentage of the first born daughter and to find the adoption papers as well.
Thank you,
Lee Ritzler

The following e-mail is of great concern to any genealogists who use
archives.
Please read, sign the petition, then send this to any other Rootsweb or
genealogy lists you're on.
The President's budget recommendations for Fiscal Year 2006 slash or
eliminate more than 150 federal programs. In that budget, the National
Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC) has been targeted
to receive NO funding. This includes no funds for the grants program and
no funds for staffing to support the NHPRC programs. It effectively
eliminates NHPRC.
The Council of State Historical Records Coordinators, the Society of
American Archivists, and the National Association for Government
Archivists and Records Administrators are working collaboratively to
address this threat to NHPRC and NARA. Archivists across the U.S. are
rallying to save NHPRC while also ensuring that NARA has sufficient
funding to sustain its current programs and continue to advance in areas
that benefit all archival repositories and every citizen of the United
States.
As part of our efforts to continue to express to Congress interest in
restoration of funding for NHPRC, we have created an online petition.
Please consider signing this petition, and please forward it to any
listservs, e-mail groups, or organizations and people you feel would be
interested in helping with this effort. It is a quick and easy way for
many people to assist. The petition will be forwarded to the House
Appropriations Committee and Subcommittee on Treasury, Transportation,
HUD and the Judiciary in late May. The petition can be access at:
_www.savearchives.org_ (http://www.savearchives.org/)
Click on the "petition" button.
If you have not received a previous action alert on this issue, we
encourage you to also write a letter to your members of Congress. For
information on writing letters of support, see any of the following
websites:

Thanks for your efforts to save this important program for archives!
