We are looking for past ancestors of the Cody line in Rochester. They were from Canada, possibly sometime between 1860 and 1870 or earlier. They had roots in France, not sure how many generations back. It is possible that their names were Peter and Mary. Peter was a blacksmith, his wife a tailoress. According to the City of Rochester directories, they had a son, Peter, Jr. that was a shoemaker.I have also heard that his name could have been Henry. Peter Jr's middle name was Henry , so there might be a connection.
It is suggested that they might have changed their last name from a French variation of the name Cody upon entering the United States. Family lore also says that either the father or the son was deported from Canada for some reason.Anyone have any possible leads?
