In doing further research on this family, I now know the James Archdeacon of Norfolk, was not the son of Edmund and Ann Oldham Archdeacon/Cody. Apparently their son, James, is deceased by the time Ann wrote her will, on 19 March 1813, and probably by the date of a deed of 1809 (no day or month) but presented in court on 19 Mar 1810, when all the children either signed or witnessed the indenture giving Ann Oldham Cody the use of the 150 acres she lived on, for as long as she lives. In Ann's will, one of her heirs is Martha James Cody and the only child she could belong to is James. There is no mention in Ann's will of an Elias. Her will was presented for probate on 17 Oct 1825. There were no codicils added to it at any later date than its original writing. There is evidence James may have also gone to NC and lived in Caswell co near his uncle, James, who married Sarah Womack. Edmund Cody alias Archdeacon (as the Prince Edward co VA court referred to him, after his deat!
h) owned land in Caswell but never lived on it.

I don't show a Jack C. Cody. Regarding the rifle -- are you sure of its age? There was a commemorative rifle manufactured by Daisy back around the 1960's.

Happy to oblige:
BB had three daughers and one son. The son, Kit Carson Cody, died as a child. The daughters were: Arta Lucille, b. 1866, Orra Maude b. 1872, Irma Louise b. 1883.
Arta Lucille Cody married Horton S. Boal. They had two children: Arta Clara Boal and William Cody Boal.
The children of Orra and Irma are unknown to me.

Actually, Buffalo Bill had three daughters and one son. The boy died as a youngster but all daughters grew to adulthood and had children. None of the direct ancestors had the surname Cody except a great grandson who had his last name legally changed to Cody.
If you have some dates and names for me, I'll look up your family. I have a very extensive genealogy of the Cody family from which Buffalo Bill descends. By the way, Buffalo Bills' Cody line is often thought to be related to the Irish Codys. They are not. They arrived in 1698 in Massachusettes with the surname Les Caude or Le Gody or some such other French name (the genealogy on this is unclear). The first generation changed the name to Cody.

I would like to know the names of the parents, siblings & immediate ancestors of Buffalo Bill Cody. I am told by a 75 yr old cousin (our Grandmother's were sister's - maiden name Corson) we are related to Buffalo Bill & she remembers him visiting her Grandmother with whom she lived as a young child. I am trying to find out how (if) we are related.
Can anyone on the list tell me why it tells me (when I click on the URL
below) that this message cannot be found? I cannot access the messages at
all.
THANKS,
Diane Biggar-Taylor

Forgive me if you already know this, but I am just trying to be helpful: Buffalo Bill's birth name was William Frederick Cody. If you search those records, it may be helpful. I am having the same difficulty...the problem is that Buffalo Bill only had one child who died at an early age (at least that is the info I have read so far), so he would only be able to be an Uncle.
The Cody in my family (I don't know her 1st name yet -- poss Eve) married a Dean.
