Hi Mechie,
Thanks so much for your note. I will be glad to send you a copy of the interview of Pierce Cody whose family lived on the Robert "Bob" Cody plantation. My scanner is not the best, however, so, I would have to mail it to you, which I will be glad to do if you will send me your address.
I thought, though that you might be interested in the source of the interview: "WPA Slave Narrative Project, Vol. 4, Part 1." I found this under "Slave Narratives" on ancestry .com. Then I found a copy of the original typed interview on http://memory.loc.gov/cgi-bin/ampage. The latter had some information not contained on the Ancestry site. Unfortunately for us family historians, very little time was spent on the slave family's information.
I am not sure that Robert "Bob" Cody is connected to my family due to the fact that I have not been able to conclusively link the Warren County Codys to my Taylor and Schley County Codys. Any information you might be able to share concerning the parents, children, or inlaws of "Bob" Cody could be very helpful.
Incidentally, have you seen the 1870 Georgia Census? If not, it lists several Codys who may have been former slaves. I checked my copy and the only thing that might help is two References for Caroline Cody.
I have a lot of work to do on my Georgia Codys, so I will keep my eyes out for clues that might interest you.
Carol

I am Mechie Taylor and I am researching my 3rd Grandmother Cathrine/Katie.
She was purchased by Rev. James DICKEY in Warren, County sometime around 1859.
There is oral history that says Katie was originally from a CODY plantation in Warren County and had a Sister named "Allie".
I would love to see the Slave Memoir you mentioned of Bob CODY. There was a Robert "Bob" CODY who owned slaves in Warren County, Georgia that I have recently been researching.
The best email for me is: mechie77(a)georgiaroots.com
Thanks.

I made a mistake, Gertha Grindstaff who married Jack Cody was NOT the daughter of Levi Hensley and Martha Willis,
She was a sister to the two sisters that married two of the Hensley cousins.
Sorry for the mistake.

Hello:
I am Mechie Taylor a researcher from Wilkes County.
The 1860 Census shows my GGG Grandmother, Katie DICKEY (age 11) as 1 of 2 slaves owned by Methodist Clergyman, James DICKEY. Minister DICKEY pastored the Smyrna Church (here in Wilkes) from 1860-1861 but was originally from Walker County. The 1850 Census shows him still living with parents/siblings and owning no slaves.
There is oral history that supports my Grandmother being owned by a CODY from Warren County. It is said that she often reflected on times spent with "Master CODY" on his "plantation" and that she spoke of having a Sister named "Allie".
Katie's Death Certificate lists her Mother as Katie WILLIAMS.
To date, I have not found any other supporting information.
I am seeking anything (bill of sale, marriage record, will, inventory, church record) that would link a DICKEY to a CODY.
Our Family Website: http://www.georgiaroots.com
Any assistance would be most appreciated.
Mechie Taylor
