Looking for surname of Adam's wife. It may be Burdge or Burgess.
Adam Coddington, b. ca 1800 Canada, d. 1870 Cambria, Niagara Co, NY, m. Eliza E.
Howard Griffith Burdge's "Burdge and Allied Families" (HGB), pg 120, says that Eliza E. Burdge, b. 1811 (daughter of Isaac Burdge & Elizabeth Layton) married FNU Coddington.
HGB, pg 120 & 129, also says that Isaac & Elizabeth had son, Isaac Burdge, Jr, b. 1805.

Regarding Adam's wife, Eliza E - do you know her surname?
I suspect she was Eliza E. Burdge: (1) a daughter of Isaac Burdge & Elizabeth Layton; and (2) a cousin of Frederick Burgess (who lived near her in 1860 NY census); and (3) who had a son Adam Coddington, Jr. that was living with Frederick Burgess in 1870 Mich census.

Hi Jonathon
I didnt expect to get any replies to my message, let alone so quickly!! My ancester Robert Quyddington was born about 1570 in a place called Titsey in Surrey, and some researchers have placed him as being a brother of Stockdale but I haven't come accross any confirmation of that so I dont like to say its true. Titsey is a very small village not a stones throw from Bletchingley.
I have an Ephraim who had twin daughters baptised 12.1.1650 in Dorking and a John who married Marie Stone on 18.5.1642, also in Dorking. Part of the reason for me research is the twin thing in my family and it appears to come from the Quittentons. My great-great grandmother was Mary Quittenton, born 6.6.1821 in Chelsham, where I was also born and grew up.
I only found this Coddington connection last night while I was playing on the computer, I find this the best way of finding information, and I was just staggered to find him. There was also Abraham Quyddington who went to the States, he was born in 1650 in Titsey and was a soldier in King Phillips War, was reported killed by Indians but later married and had two daughters.
The only information I am sure about regarding Stockdales family is that already posted but I do have a lot of information regarding the English Quittenton/den/Quiddington family.
Thanks for writing!!
Lois

Quite true, and how excellent to hear from a Quittenton descendant! Can you trace your line back to a probable sib, child or cousin of Stockdale? His son John emigrated to the U.S. and appeared variously as C/o/u/d/dd/rr/ington. In the male line Stockdale had children James and Ephraim that married, and Ephraim had sons Ephraim and James, but there the trail runs cold (and it's been cold for the last 30 years, at least).
If you can illuminate Stockdale's origins or relatives, that would be most interesting.
Jonathan

Stockdale was baptised under the family name of Quidungton, variations used for his siblings include Quedyngton, Quydyngton, Quyddenton, Quiddington - and I am descended from a Quittenton
